If you were to use silicone and then later on for some unforeseen reason require paint work, it would be a nightmare. The silicone would forever contaminate the surface it is applied too. Paint won't adhere to silicone.

It is not a major issue. As I had said it is a shrinkage crack in the seam sealer. If you still remember the video that showed the building of the maverick at the factory. The seam sealer is applied by human hands. If you wish to touch this area up with something, use a urethane sealer designed...
Add me to the crack club. Found a small crack, little over an inch long on passenger side seam sealer. I would think it is caused by shrinkage of the seam sealing material.
Brushed carwashes damage the finish. This is a fact not opinion. Yes an occasional two bucket hand wash is necessary for deep cleaning. along with the touchless washes in between.
I take my truck through a touchless wash nearly every day and put a ceramic coating spray wax on at least once every six weeks or so. Paint still looks showroom new. No swirls or scratch marks. Just a deep shine all the time.
I do not consider Atlanta as a cold climate. I am talking about the Northern tier States. Where temperature stays in single digits or below for days or even weeks at a time.
The benefits of a hybrid or electric vehicles become less evident in colder climates. Just something to take into consideration when trying to decide on which type of vehicle best meets your needs.
