I loved my Sport Trac right up to the point I needed to rent a motorcycle trailer from U-Haul.
U-Haul prohibited any of their trailers from being towed behind Ford Explorers model years 2002 to 2010, including the Explorer Sport Trac.
At that point my Sport Trac became a useless vehicle to me...
After a little searching.
I don't believe they do.
Key phrase. It has to be 'Dark Enough'
I think people were flashing him at the intersection to tell him his headlights were on.
Back before I retired.
Couple times a month, on the way to the shop, I would see the same lady driving to work at 4:00 in the morning, with only her very dim daylight driving lights on. One morning I pulled up next to her and asked her. Why she doesn't turn her headlights on? She thought they...
Exactly the same situation here. I don't want the dealership tearing the dash out, breaking something else in the process.
It's a truck. I'll just live with it
It was actually just happenstance, my wife and I were on vacation in Daytona Beach, Florida. I'd always read the 'Say Smokey' column in *Popular Science.
Spare of the moment I said, I want to stop in and take a look at his shop. It turns out Smokey was there. I asked him about this new motor...
1. Cold Engine Filter only change.
You do this on a cold engine. Preferably in the morning before the engine is ever started.
2. Oil loss.
The oil you lose is the amount that's in the filter and what is residing in the tube running to the filter.
The majority of your oil is still in the oil...
Back in 1989 when I first started using Mobile1 I was told by Mr. Henry Yunick
(Yes "Smokey" Yunick) to change my oil every 6,000 miles and my oil filter every 3,000 miles and top off the oil. He loved synthetic oil.
He told me about molecular structure of synthetic oil versus mineral base oil...
Somehow I think the op is going to report it to insurance. He bought a new 2025 to have and drive a new Maverick, not drive a beat up pos. Especially if he's still making payments on it.
I knew what you meant from your post. 👍
I was just heading off any possible "what if" speculation from the field.
I've never had this particular problem.
That doesn't mean that somebody hasn't, obviously.
Glad I could help.
You're Welcome🤝
Best part it's cheap, it's easy and no permanent alterations to a safety feature.
I would certainly try the rubber cap first. To see if it works and how well it works before I'd start hacking away at the truck.
Good Luck,
