Be careful with steel wool - it gets microscopic steel hairs everywhere and they will eventually rust. Steel wool is a form of abrasive polish. There are lots of abrasive polishes that wont rust. Steel wool is great for many applications, but you have to be sure you can remove all traces of it...

A constant 160A load on that battery along with a constant 160A charge is going to kill it. The heat build up under that cover with such a draw is going to kill it.
