But they are not going after the same customers. Totally different market segments!
Ford is going after truck buyers who want a small “truck”. Hyundai is going after urban, skinny-jean-wearing, soy latte-slurping young professionals by their very own statements.
Unibody is not the defining...
You know it! I have a 2019 Ridgeline... I use CarPlay which has a standard interface no matter the vehicle.. I have to use the steering wheel volume control as the touchscreen is terrible!
Maybe Hyundai copied too much from the Ridgeline
If that's the styling buyers really wanted in a truck; Ford would have never retired the Ranchero and Chevy never would have retired the El Camino. Same for the Subaru BRAT/Baja
Considering Honda's anemic annual sales of the Ridgeline, apparently there aren't many out there looking for a...
Not really... personally I think it looks like a Korean El Camino. Comments on the Santa Cruz fan pages prove styling is controversial at best..
Has the same problem as Ridgeline - can't go off-road.. and with 20" wheels show that even light off-road was not in mind by Hyundai engineers.

But we don’t even know yet what the features are in the upper trim levels of the Maverick.
They are also aimed at two entirely different customer sets.. I expect the Maverick to have capabilities of a “truck” whereas Hyundai has already dampened expectations in that dept by declaring “it’s not...
I ended up calling Honda, as Car and Driver was the pub that said the imbed trunk cover is carbon fiber for strength.
I asked customer service and they said what constitutes the bedliner is not listed in any of the specs, not even the internal specs db that customer service can reference...
So...
The trunk cover is indeed carbon fiber. It has to be for strength. A composite wouldn’t be strong enough. When I open it, it has the smell of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber isn’t all that expensive, except if you’re talking about more finished carbon fiber like you see used in bicycle frames.
Last I heard Ford is not collaborating on EVs w VW. Why would they? The Mustang Mach E is sold out! And in the last financial dip, Ford picked up that Detroit based battery company w some key patents.
the agreement w VW was a “platform sharing” agreement. It appears the first to take advantage...
I think the Santa Cruz is pretty garish and ugly.. like a rehashed, Korean El Camino! I'm lovin' the Maverick's looks! 😁
Besides, now I've heard the Santa Cruz will be more Ridgeline sized than Maverick sized...
Tweakers would find it hard to break into the Ridgeline in-bed storage compartment. It made out of carbon fiber, so it’s pretty tough. That, the spare being in the compartment, and the dual-action tailgate are the things I love about my Ridgeline. The rest, not so much..
