I had this same thing happen with a bike rack in the hitch and tailgate up. Extremely annoying! I put it in trailer mode to fix it, but doing that loses the blind spot warning which I value. Not one of Ford’s better ideas.

One of my biggest pet peeves is all that display area and no 6 guage dash like an F150 too. What a waste! Also, not retaining display selections across ignition cycles. Automotive engineering 101 FAIL!!!

Plugging it in did defeat the safety systems, but here are pix of what I did.

Guess I’ll find out. Bought a high mount stop lamp (chimsel $5 on marketplace) to put on my step bumper. Plugged it in and have stop, turn and hazards functioning low along with standard DOT lighting. I guess I may have to unplug it if I need the safety gizmos.

I believe it figured the total mileage by adding the gas and electric miles for a total of 683 divided by the 13.1 gals used. I get about 52.1 mpg from that.
