Yes, I connected it under the hood, to the 12 V battery. And yes, the air conditioner draws less.

I’ve run a 5500 W inverter. I connected it under the hood to the positive, and the negative to the chassis ground. I powered a small air conditioner off of this for about 17 hours with no problems.

I like to go three or 4 mph over the speed that I want to go. Then I back off on the accelerator, and it usually kicks into EV mode.
