All my previous trucks had crossbars installed on the cap only. Never anything on the cab of the truck. Worked fine.

I have the inverter there. Might solve the problem for others though the tailpipe might interfere on that side?

There's a guy in Farmington that has a VB mav. I've seen it in his driveway headed to Sugarloaf.

I'd put crossbars on if you want to do that. Otherwise if you don't love your paint and pad it a lot for a short trip it might work. Crossbars would make it easy enough.

In used to using my side mirrors. My F450 doesn't even have a rearview center mount mirror or any rear visibility other than the mirrors. Backup camera works nice if it's not covered though.

To follow up with something mentioned in another thread, the cap is MFG by Leer. If you search it out there is a guy on here who details how to add electric locks to the cap which is really nice. Thinking of doing that this summer.

When cold I find the transmission at slow speeds shifts like it's being done by a poorly aimed sledgehammer. It goes away quickly. The low gears feel clunkier at low RPM to shift around than the high ones, without a display for the current gear it could all be down to skipping gears (2-4...

You could put a foam weatherstrip along the edges but the glass is pretty big and the plastic lip just covers the tailgate.

Nice that looks good! Can also carry anything else long without issue. 8' lumber will be a breeze.
