I don't have a problem with them esthetically, but I'm less convinced of their function. In Ontario at least, on trucks you put the registration sticker on the front plate, while cars it goes on the back. Police can easily pull up behind you, run your plates, and check your stickers in a car...
Depends on where you are. In Ontario we have both, in Quebec you don't need a front plate. Not sure about other provinces because I don't see them as often.
