Toyota is probably waiting to see the "$30,000" ev truck from Ford and the ev Slate truck, which will be the next Cyberjoke. Toyota is eyeing what price-point their Stout should target. They are very conservative, so I would say the Maverick has another 3 years before a Stout appears. It will...
MPC was a complete redesign to the Ecoboost engine. GPF's were only used in job 3 builds of 2025 and beyond. I assume all 2026 Ecoboost's have the GPF. Ford has never detailed all the changes made to the MPC design. Never mentioned in any ads or brochures.
'25 changed the the headlights and front bumper, added a larger center screen and semi-digital gauge-cluster. Added the Lobo and awd hybrid and that was it. Gen 2 will redo the exterior, interior and add more option packages and possible plugin hybrid. They will focus on cost-more for the same...
makes me appreciate the Lobo- all the design and thought and parts that were selected to make a very special model. And the extra effort done on the inside and outside to make it look more refined. The grill for instance, has more open area to allow for better cooling. 402A is a decent deal.
We should follow the Mustang path. Cheap start- essentially a Falcon with a better looking body that has evolved to a $50,000 car. The Maverick will never be the $21,000 it started out as. The XL will be the loss leader to get you to look and the upper trims will be more than current price...
I don't think the "Stout" is a high priority. Toyota is working on a:
new MR2
Celica
Supra
The "compact" truck space hasn't hit 200,000 sales yet- Toyota will not have product for another 2 years at best. They may be also be waiting to see the Maverick 2.0 and what it has for the price. New...
the slate will be a novelty for about 6 months. In the end it's a very cheap EV truck with nothing in stock form. Everything is ala-cart. In the end it won't be a very cost effective purchase and it will be around $26K for a truck with no radio, paint or other things people expect.
I also looked at the SC-. For me 3 issues:
-not many dealers close to me
- it had a DCT
- and it was a Hyundai- I think they make good EV's, not ICE vehicles
I also found the Lobo- which I feel was a great deal (402A/employee pricing)) and is the best looking "compact truck"
I'm sure you will pay more than what you paid for the Maverick. Plus you will have no radio or paint. I see this as a limited use 3rd vehicle, not something you want to drive everyday. It will have some early curiosity appeal like the Cyber-joke, but I don't see it being a mainstream product.
