  1. Anyone using a radar detector in their Maverick?

Needless to say, I don't care what anyone else does, but experienced cops are good at judging speed. If a vehicle goes blowing past them at well over the average flow of traffic, and at the same time their LIDAR fails to register the speed, a) they're gonna know the driver is speeding, and b)...
  2. Anyone using a radar detector in their Maverick?

When I was commuting, the limit was still 55. All the cops did 70-80+ but many of them were hypocrites and wrote drivers up for less. The rule was that 30 over = a 5 point ticket, so I kept it to the low 80s. That all but guaranteed a ticket if I was caught (though not always) but it was 2...
  3. Anyone using a radar detector in their Maverick?

Yep! I retired in 2010, but when I was working my commute was often the best part of my day. I drove a modified 2002 WRX (which I still have) that was a blast to drive. I generally worked 3-11 pm, so it was a reverse commute. The highway was almost deserted coming home at night.
  4. Anyone using a radar detector in their Maverick?

As a retired lead foot, my experience was that while radar detectors can be useful in some situations (the cop shoots a vehicle 1/4 mile ahead) radar is normally left off. In fact, legally it is only supposed to be used to confirm a visual estimation of speed. Some cops may leave it running...
  5. UPGRADED to AGM Battery (and LARGER capacity) in Maverick Hybrid

Battery Tender makes good products -- mostly maintainers but also a couple chargers.
  6. Best riding all weather tire you've found

The CC2 is rated 4/5 for everything, including rolling resistance, except ice/snow traction which is 5/5. Rolling resistance is important, but other factors carry more weight. All tires are a compromise, and the CC2 is the best compromise out there, AFAIK. There may be tires that are better...
  7. Best riding all weather tire you've found

The Michelin Cross Climate 2 is the top-rated SUV tire in CR. It is an all-weather tire with the 3PMS symbol on the sidewall. Essentially a winter tire that can be run year-round. Excellent (5/5) on snow and ice. CR's extrapolated life is 95,000 miles. I was just looking at them because our...
  8. DIY Floor jack and jack stand saddle: I've never felt safer

How difficult is it to remove? That aside, it doesn't hurt to have 2 jacks.
  9. UPGRADED to AGM Battery (and LARGER capacity) in Maverick Hybrid

FWIW, we recently went on a ~20 day vacation and left our BS Badlands at home. I'm pretty compulsive about connecting a Battery Tender (BT) when it will be sitting for more than a couple days but I forgot. When we returned the voltage was 12.61V. The battery is a Motorcraft AGM (recall...
  10. UPGRADED to AGM Battery (and LARGER capacity) in Maverick Hybrid

Excellent write-up! The dealer should have replaced it though. At least they did with many Bronco Sports (including our Badlands). That was a recall, but the symptoms were as you described. Many dealers play all sorts of games and sometimes engage in fraud to avoid warranty work. They should...
  11. Does Forscan allow for changing the crossover frequencies between the various speakers?

If it isn't too much trouble, you might consider a variable crossover to divert more of the low end to the sub. The AVS Forum is a good source of info, but they are more oriented toward home audio.
  12. Extended Warranty - worth it?

These extended warranty threads have many posts mentioning the complex nature of modern cars, essentially, 'more to break.' That's absolutely correct, but the underwriters are aware of that and charge accordingly. They calculate the average cost of repairs for a given model and then multiply...
  13. [Quick Survey] Got a tire inflator? Tell us what's missing

We also have the Viair 88P. I can't think of anything I'd change. The gauge on ours is pretty accurate when the pump is turned off. It's a few psi high when running, but that's a non-issue. The hose and power cord are long. I can reach all of the tires on our RV with it connected to the...
  14. Extended Warranty - worth it?

Well said. All insurance is 'betting against the house.' There are a few 'winners' and many 'losers.' The winners talk, the losers do not. The make/model/trim/options don't matter. The underwriter has all of the average cost of repair data. The only way to possibly make out ahead is if...
  15. DIY Floor jack and jack stand saddle: I've never felt safer

IDK how helpful this will be, but on our Badlands I use a 2' long PT 2x6 between the floor jack and the skid plate to raise the front end. Then I place 2 large axle stands with pinch weld blocks at the front lift points. I feel perfectly safe with those axle stands. They are made in the USA...
  16. Pacific Performance Engineering oil filter for 2.0Turbo (ecoboost)

My apologies. Nothing to be sorry for. I thought the mfr/vendor used the word "naturally." I did not mean to be critical of you. We just have different ideas about what is normal WRT shipping. In my experience, shipping is usually free. There are exceptions of course -- very inexpensive...
  17. 👉🏻UPDATE👇🏻 Ford uses Torx PLUS ++ Here is the Difference

The OCD part of my brain likes that level of organization, but when it comes to my own tool chest drawers they don't stay that way long (if they ever were). I do keep some of the combination wrenches in holders, but I don't have enough holders for all of them so the extras are stored using the...
  18. Pacific Performance Engineering oil filter for 2.0Turbo (ecoboost)

Quote: "The cost is $16 each plus shipping naturally." That caught my eye. If they were $3.99 each, then the word 'naturally' might apply. Even then, in 45 years of mail order, and now online, buying, I've never seen a company say, "...plus shipping naturally." Just, "...plus shipping." Of...
  19. 👉🏻UPDATE👇🏻 Ford uses Torx PLUS ++ Here is the Difference

Same. I apologize. We really went off on a tangent. I do really appreciate the pro tip about Torx Plus. I've got them sitting right here beside me.
  20. 👉🏻UPDATE👇🏻 Ford uses Torx PLUS ++ Here is the Difference

Very impressive! It's not exactly the same, but my former employer. Metrorail (D.C.) had "shadow boards" where they used spray paint to create a black outline of each tool on a white board. IDK how it was done -- I mean, if they coated the tools in paint and then washed them off before it...
