Mobil 1 5w-30 (silver bottle, the 'regular' stuff) does carry FORD WSS-M2C961-A1 , the latest from Ford that "warranty-supports" the Maverick Ecobeast models. No problem there, unless you are buying NOS (old-stock) oil from yesteryear.
You can't always trust auto part's stores...
The only thing that matters on an oil jug or bottle you buy is these WSS numbers printed there:
Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 (0w-20 for the Hybrid only)
Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 (5w-30 for Ecoboost only)
Ford WSS-M2C963-A1 (0w-30, Ecoboost only when you might start it at below -10F)
Seeing the correct WSS-...
Works on the hybrid very well. ....... EB Mavs, I'm not sure, since it has to clear the under-engine cover. Somebody has to try it on the EB to check if the extra length isn't too much.
Reminds me of 1981 when I had Ziebart drill holes in a Dodge Omni unibody chassis to spray some anti-rust in there (at least maybe they sprayed something in there; some have said they just got in a hurry & drilled holes with little or no spray inside). I remember they then plugged the holes...
Drain Plug size: M12 X 1.75
Good brands to google for:
GoldPlug AP-04
Votex
Dimple
... all have neodymium magnets, avoid cheap Chinese brands.
I plan on pumping out half the brake fluid, and also the eCVT fluid, both every 1 or 2 years, instead of full fluid changes. Easiest to do. Turkey...
This is as of about 3 years ago, as reported from myev.com. They didn't put a date on the article, I guess to always make it look there articles are "fresh". Don't know why those dweebs do that.
The comments section have 3 year old comments in them, a clue.
Here in Colorado, we are on the...
Should be fine. That oil certified to API SP, dexos1 Gen3, and Ford's own WSS-M2C961-A1 test specs, that means about a dozen different seal materials (ACEA & API ones combined) were soaked in the oil and then measured to see if they shrunk or expanded too much.
Just having the WSS-M2C961-A1...
New one. Dyes are used for leak test quality control at the factory and to help dealership technicians find gaskets out of place.
Like to see this orange Halloween juice go through a Blackstone Lab oil analysis. Spooky. If potassium shows up in there, above about 5 ppm, then that usually...
Hi Gpp, in Sanford NC, yes you can use 10w30, since winters are not bad there at all.
The advantage to using a good full-synthetic (any brand) 10w30 oil is that they use far less VII chemicals, for better NOACK and cleaner pistons. If it was a 0w30 or 5w30, oil formulators need to counteract...
Not Ford. Engines polish themselves down a bit when breaking-in, usually with no help from anything special in the oil.
That said, some say there is benefit to either extra moly and/or ZDDP during break-in, just not Ford here.
The UOA shows moly at 142 ppm, which isn't that high for an oil...
Wow, all the stories of problems, you'd think Ford would have responded years ago!
Ford got sued 5 years ago, then used their lawyers to slow-walk it for two years, then the court dismissed the case with an attitude of "Well, then don't buy a Ford if you don't like their stuff." The suit was...
As long as there aren't hurricanes, yes, the Keys are fun! :D
Really a variety of loads & RPMs are best for break-in of the piston rings. Avoiding lugging the engine (low RPM, high load), where oil film thickness collapses, are important for the rod & main bearings.
Rings, and especially...
On a hybrid, you barely have to do anything special to break it in, since the engine kind of comes and goes on it's own.
Still, you should try not to hear the engine running at about the same load & RPM for very long periods. Slowly change pressure on the gas pedal as traffic allows of...
Not sure why Amazon did that. The McGards are a bit longer, not much.
Shiny chrome lug nuts are more visible if you drop one on a dark rainy night by the side of the road. And chrome looks great. Black lug nuts are fine, they look good on the wheel at least.
Here are 2 McGard 64073's (3...
That does look like the best, not cheap though.
For some odd reason, at lower cost on Amazon is the Gorilla 61641, which uses an outer rotating sleeve design. If I get the 61641, it will get packed with road dirt/salt in no time.
There is the Gorilla 71641N which is cheaper, seems like it...
You're right. I'm switching from McGard locks to Gorilla locks.
Another note: I found that lightweight plastic wheel chocks, tucked in cloth (anti-rattle) next to the jack behind the back seat, is nice to have. 3 fit back there, 2 for the opposite diagonal wheel while changing a tire, and 1...
The Bronco Sport, sister to the Maverick, only gets the skinnier 12mm wheel studs, not our 14mm.
Strange they would do that, since I just saw a Ford commercial promoting it's off-road prowess, loaded to the gills, jumping and jinking over rough terrain with 2 hippy chicks who time-traveled from...
Yes, worked fine. (I needed one of these CD/DVD read-write drives anyway since we have about 20 years of picture archives on CD/DVD.)
Nice thing about the CD Service Manual is that you can print to PDF files and save them as you view things, then store them in a folder on your laptop.
