I believe so - it doesn't detect any weight in the seat so in the event of a crash, that airbag will not deploy - I think its a way of letting you know the sensor is working - if a passenger IS sitting in the seat and it still says "airbag off" then you know there is an issue

its funny how much of a difference it makes - I love mine Ford missed out on making a great accessory lol
