Get the best tires you can afford, leave a large gap between you and whatever you don't want to crash into, and brake early. Or you could get a vehicle with a stick shift! I got one of those in my ugly Bronco. Fun stuff.

This guy knows. When I drive in my old truck, that has a three speed auto, I manually shift it into 2nd when taking off in slick situations as it makes it harder for the engine to spin the tires at low rpm and keeps the wheels from spinning out and sliding the back end to the side.
