The clicking noises some attributed your question to are not normal while driving. My 2024 XLT hybrid makes them when I approach the vehicle with the fob while it is off or if I open a door, but not while driving. That is something you should have checked by a trusted mechanic.

My understanding is that the 22-24 XL and XLT models have Connected Touch Radio and not Sync. I think this is the root of the problem.

Seems like a valid criticism to me. I didn't realize that there was a hollow channel that ran all the way down the side like that. I agree that it would be the perfect place for salt and other nasty stuff to accumulate.

Thanks! I'll remember not to use the built in MTC search next time. Seems scary to have to first erase all programmed keys. Is it possible to lose all access to the truck if I screw up the Forscan procedure. Or can I always use Forscan to regain access?

I would assume, since it deploys from the top of the dash, that the airbag would miss the shelf. However, things placed on it, especially things more than a couple inches tall, would be projectiles.
