Don’t forget the HiPo as in the days of the early mustang 289HiPo. It was a stang with 289 with solid lifters had like 290 horses as opposed to standard 289 which I think was 225 or so.Can't forget SVT, Special Vehicle Team and SHO super high output..loved my svt contour and Taurus SHO
I believe the HIPO 289 was the first factory 1 horse per cube motor.Don’t forget the HiPo as in the days of the early mustang 289HiPo. It was a stang with 289 with solid lifters had like 290 horses as opposed to standard 289 which I think was 225 or so.
Yep. Mean little engine. I had a 64 fairlane 500 sport coupe that had a 289HiPo in it. I bought it as a used project car. It had a 260 emblem on fenders and engine sounded like crap. I had a friend tell me it need new lifters thinking they were a bad hydraulic. When we went in to replace them we discovered solid lifters. Some one had swapped out original 260. I found the block vin# and went back to local ford dealer to return hydraulic lifters and was told that # was for a 289HiPo block. That was only car I ever got a speeding ticket in. Finally sold it a few years later for a nice profit.I believe the HIPO 289 was the first factory 1 horse per cube motor.
