I'm about to embark on a DIY fabrication of a bed rack for my new Maverick. I'm taking Billiebars as my inspiration but I can see no way to make their brackets work with my Bak Revolver X4S tonneau cover. They say the brackets go between the bed & the tonneau rails but that just seems undoable to me without warping the rails & compromising the cover.

But to attach my fabricated brackets I'll need to drill through the perimeter of the bed and bolt the brackets from the underside (there's a 1" lip on both sides & I believe I have just enough room to bolt each bracket securely).

So my question is, can anyone see any red flags as to why I should not drill through this perimeter? I mean beyond the fact that it's a brand new truck!

I have it all sorted out as to the logistics & materials but it's just the wisdom of doing this drilling that I need some feedback on.

Thanks a lot!!!

I would take a look at the strapping stuff down section- it mentions how to best tie stuff down to not bend/warp the bed. The bed is part of the truck and not a separate component on these Unibody vehicles...

That does sound like a red flag. You mean that section in the owner's manual? Anyway I'd better think on this further .. don't want to compromise the integrity of the bed that's for sure ...
