Just did my tailgate today, pretty easy if you watch a video 1st. The tips about taping outside handle and taping new harness to old for easy pass through were helpful.

Question: is key supposed to still lock and unlock tailgate? Mine doesn't.

Yes Mike, the key will still lock and unlock the tailgate. Not sure what the problem is, I'd take the lock assembly loose and look for how the key cylinder aligns with the power actuator.

Then i retract my statement about being easy since i have to take it apart again. Man, i was feeling pretty pleased with myself.

Wish I could be more help. Wife and I took a trip to Hawaii in February with a stop over night in Oakland, a fellow XL owner was able to install the cruise switches but didn't have a computer, we set it up for him to come to our hotel and I programmed his Mav for him. Another man in California was worried about programming his Mav after installing new switches so walked him through it on the phone, got his working. It shouldn't be too hard to remove the tailgate panel and lock assembly, hardest part was installing the new wire harness, something you shouldn't have to deal with again. Sorry I don't remember what has to be done but it should be just figuring out how the key lock cylinder used to connect into the original latch assembly. Good luck. If worse comes to worse let me know and I'll take mine apart to see what the answer is.

That was the only good part about getting rolled over to a 2023 . The 23 XL comes with cruse control . Also I purchased my mud flaps from Amazon ,they fit perfect and no drilling . Thanks

With so many of us adding cruise control to our 2022 Mavs Ford most likely saw the opportunity to raise price approximately $2500 and add cruise control that most likely cost them $50 for the switches. I've got a 2023 XL Hybrid on order, if it ever gets built I'll decide if I sell the 2022 or 2023.

Ok, apparently I'm looking at the wrong wiring harness for the tailgate lock. The one I found is one ended. In other words connector for solenoid only on one end and bare pigtails on the other

Yes in Canada the price went up $3,500 bucks . They did give me the $1750 rebate . I am telling myself that with the cruse and a one year newer vehicle it was worth the extra money . But I really did not have a choice . I was 17 months from order to delivery .

The original non power tailgate lock does have a connector for the back up cam. A new wire harness for the power tailgate has several connectors, if I remember it has 3 connectors. The original wire harness should go to a body connector under the bed near the spare tire, I took the spare down for easier access and to find out how to lower it anyway and where the lowering rod was.

I was lucky and my 2022 Hybrid XL with Co-pilot 360 was built 7 months after order and exactly 8 months after ordering I picked it up. I have a 2023 on order, same as the 2022, with restraints will be interesting to see if I get it.

Any idea where I can find one of these connectors?

I have a 2023 Tremor on order . But they did say probably be 2024 before I get it . I am pretty happy with my XL with a 2 inch lift and Toyo tires . So thinking when they call me to reorder a 24 ,I will just cancel and get my $1,000 dollar deposit back . I am in the dilemma of giving up my 4K tow for better off road .

I would assume your ecoboost is the same as a Hybrid, if the same then the original non power locking tailgate lock assembly would have had a wire harness going to it with one connector for the back up camera. On the Hybrid you follow that original wire harness to a connector under the bed somewhat on the passenger side. I removed the spare tire for easier access, just had to disconnect the original wire harness from that connector under the bed and replace the original wire harness with one for a power tailgate lock. If I remember correctly the new harness has 3 connectors for the new power lock assembly. I taped the new wire harness to the old one BEFORE pulling out the old one to feed the new one through. Be sure to think about which way the wire harnesses need taped together to make sure the new harness goes in the direction you want.

If this doesn't help, let me know your issue better. Did the original manual tailgate lock have a wire harness connected to it?

Sounds like you need two Mavericks, one for towing and one for off road play. Make your salesman happy!
