Some didn't. I was just discussing this with my son the other day. In my childhood, I knew 4 kids I went to school with die in auto accidents. Elementary through high school. My son who graduated from high school 5 years ago didn't lose any friends, though in many accidents.

Not scientific by any means, of course. But nothing is more true to someone than their own personal experiences.

I used to ride around playing with toys and matchbox cars in the back hatch of our Mercury station wagon. Like it was a big playpen. It was great. I remember a few emergency stops, where I went flying into the upright seat back. It was kinda fun. But it could have been very deadly, in an accident.

We weren't tougher for it, we were ignorant and lucky. I praise God for my luck. And we are probably doing risky things today we don't think anything of now, that future generations will think we were crazy.
Not that this meme pertains to safety equipment but hit home for me.
My generation grew up looking for frogs and S*it.

Modern generation grew up looking for a WI-FI signal.

We are not the same.

Interesting reading all the wants and needs for safety equipment.

As a small child our old Mercury had no seatbelts so my dad would put a phone book for me to sit on, remember when they were about 3 inches thick. Now I could see out the windows. Or I would stand on the floor in front of the front seat and hold on by putting my fingers in the defroster vents. Metal dashboards BTW.
On longer trips I would lay on the rear package deck under the rear window.
How did my generation ever survive?
I came home from the hospital in a 1952 Mercury Monterey. Yes, it's a wonder we survived the 50s and 60s.

Crazy. Guess my Dad was a safety nut since he had this sweet cord for me to hang on to:

I have XL Eco with the standard crash avoidance it comes with. Its way off. Went off 3 times in the 1400 miles I drove it. Twice there was nothing and once the other car was so far in front of me, there wasn’t an issue to avoid.
Mine has gone off once. When a vehicle in the lane next to, and just ahead of me suddenly slowed down. Scared the crap out of me! I didn't immediately realize what my Maverick was doing.

My previous two vehicles have had crash avoidance systems, but they never activated.

I was referring to the rear alert when reversing. But, yeah I’m going to test the settings on the collision avoidance to see what I can live with.
