Flew in from Alaska to pick up my new Maverick Lariat. I lucked out. The second truck, a Maverick XLT, arrived on the lot one hour before I got there. Both are going back to Alaska. I will be pulling about a 3000 lb load with the Lariat. We spent the last few days visiting relatives and buying supplies for the trip. Many items are not available in Alaska.

A big shout out to Zac Brown and staff of Chuck Spaeth Ford in Sleepy Eye Minnesota. Superlative service though the process. They made it easy.

We are taking them cross country through Canada. Had to go through several gyrations to prepare for the border crossings but it should work out. One member of the team of 4 doesn't have the full vaccination protocols so his crossing might be questionable. Hope we don't have to leave him behind!
This will be fun. Looking forward to the giant wave pool in Edmington and then Liard outdoor hot springs when we get nearer the Alaskan Border. Bathing in hot water outdoors with frozen hair!

Today's the day we find out when we leave for Alaska with two Mavericks. Some freight from Ontario should be showing up at my Brother in laws gas piping company. If so we can hit the road.
Got the first oil change on my Lariat yesterday (1000 miles). Learned the dance to get the cargo trailer interior lights to come on. It's on a separate pin on the 7 pin trailer connector. Have to start car with doors closed, back up or go forward a little bit, put in park, leave running and you get power on the utility pin. Same thing is necessary for someone who has an electric exterior jack for a trailer or motor home. Dealer also started a request for a service bulletin information on accessing the fuse under the hood. Couldn't pull the two main connectors off the fuse box without breaking so we did a work around by lifting the whole assembly off with wires attached. Laughed because mechanic refused to force the tightly connected main cables off with a tool. I didn't mind.
My buddy had his F250 stolen in Canada with a trailer and a car on the trailer. Got his truck back and the trailer but not the car. After he got it back he took main fuses out. Crooks broke in again but couldn't get it started so at least he didn't lose the truck twice.
I packed extreme gear bag. That means we will not have bad weather. Temps look good along the route. Anything above zero is good to me. Driving the truck is very easy but most of my other vehicles are 20 years old or older. Temperature controls are great! Cranked up the volume with Sirius and felt like a teenager with a boom box!
Settled into some lght low volume jazz and was disappointed when we drove the 100 miles's home so fast. Didn't have that 'gotta stop to stretch feeling. Somebody did a good job designing the seat height and the driver leg room. I can extend my foot all the way past the brake pedal in comfort. When I get out I don't experience the first two stiff lgged steps from getting the circulation going again. Must be the cradle design of the seats. Very nice positioning in the seat.
This moose was licking salt off my front steps last week. She slept there with her yearling calf several nights. I was a hunting guide so I recognize her ears back, leave me alone attitude!

Correction. The request for service bulletin started by the dealer was for instructions to connect android auto wirelessly. It works OK with cord but is supposed to work with bluetooth..

I hope you're going up through Winnipeg then across highway 1! Whatever you do, don't go across highway 2 in North Dakota - it is far too remote for a long trip this time of year.

We are looking right now. Planning to cross at Coutes Alberta, going through Montana.
Since our partially vaccinated partner can't get across my wife might actually consider flying in to Great Falls Montana and replace him. He knows he's going to get left but seems happy to join the adventure anyway.

Android Auto only works wired - for wireless you need an adapter (there are only a couple out there - Motorola MA1 is new, works pretty well but is backordered on Amazon, it is extremely popular).

If they were attempting to update the radio, that just needs a wifi connection.

We plan on going across South Dakota not North Dakota. When I was a lot younger I did get a lot more remote by taking a conoe trip across Lake Winnepeg up to Hudson Bay following the route of Hudson Bay fur traders. Took most of a summer. This trip is more benign.

Nice!

That should be a good route, and the 10 day forecast here in MN is looking good so I suspect that short of the mountains it'll be similar in SD/ND/MT. I only mentioned highway 2 across the north part of ND because we drove that out to Alberta one summer, and it is sparse! There really is not much of anything up there (though I'm sure it'll be like that for much of your trip anyway!)

Ford Dealer said Maverick has sync 3 system which is not wireless. Sync 4 system is wireless. From what I've heard Sync 4 is availble but Ford chose not to install. Its a hardware item not a software upgrade. I don't think its worth it pull the dash to install an upgrade. I'll stick with the cord or wait to find an adapter.
