This feels sacrilegious.......but, there's no better place to ask this.

Couple months ago when my order got placed the Cincinnati dealer entered it incorrectly (EB not hybrid), but everyone here gave great advice and said to just go with it because I wouldn't drive it enough every day. This weekend I got the email from Ford that many others got, telling me about supply chain issues and that in 45 days maybe I'll get a better update.

Only thing is, since it got ordered I've been applying to grad schools in England. It's much cheaper in the UK - but I was thinking of what I would do IF my Maverick arrived before next fall, should i bail? should i buy and resell? should i sell my order? The latter two are intriguing if it could help pay for the costs so I could graduate debt-free, but this is not my area of expertise. If it's between me marking it up as a used car or the shitty dealer, I'd rather be the one to benefit. But, is that market even there anymore? If I bail on my order, can I cancel directly with ford or will my dealer benefit?

No deposit paid yet / NOT making a permanent decision today - JUST asking if the resale market is still there so I am not panicking to make a decision in a couple months

edited to remove the fun parentheticals :/

I lived in the UK for some years and feel a LHD vehicle in a RHD country can be less than fun but doable of course. Once you get closer to making the move you can make a better decision. 60% is nice but thats not 100% sure.
Now the they have a new PM I think the GBP will recover but have no clue how much.

You've got a lot going on here and I think what to do with a car order that you may not even get in the next year is pretty low priority. Why not keep the order and make a decision when it gets delivered?

I'll go regardless of the pound, and tbh I'll most likely will go if I get in, just trying not to get too excited before I'm accepted!

Because if it gets delivered any time after August I won't be here (assuming I'm accepted/attend), nor am I swimming in cash to afford grad school and a car payment. My question is in regards to if there's still the resale market for Mavericks and the best way to approach that

I would just wait to see when exactly it gets built/delivered and worry about it then. The used truck market might be great or drop like a rock between then and now.

Do you happen to have any immediate family members that might be interested in a Maverick?

You won't know market conditions until the truck arrives. You can simply decline to buy the car and the dealer will love you for it. I assume you didn't put down a deposit. I doubt you will profit enough if anything to pay for the cost of flying back just to sell it once you buy it.

I'd sit tight and see what happens. Worst that can happen is you tell the dealer to keep it.

Tragically no! I'm the only truck person in the family, they think I'm insane for wanting a Maverick. Not ditching the Mav yet, just learning my options so I'm more prepared when/if the time comes.

Agreed ^^^^

Way too early, plus you can advise the dealer you don't want it.
Not sure if you gave a deposit. Most dealers are asking for one. And is the deposit refundable or not.

Sounds like you already know what you need to do - can't afford Grad School and a Maverick payment. If you get accepted to Grad School then write the Maverick off. If the Maverick somehow comes before Grad School I would recommend you not tie down your money on the truck. Of course, if you don't get accepted that changes everything, right?

I'm hoping you get accepted to Grad School and enjoy your time in England! Get the Maverick later...

Well one thing you can’t do is sell your order as you don’t own anything. Basically you can refuse it when it arrives or you buy it since your name is on the order. I wish you the best either way.

There's no way of predicting what it will look like if/when your order is fulfilled... We may already be seeing the EcoBoost resale market soften a bit. Around here, I'm seeing $2,500 ADM versus $10,000 ADM 6 months ago.

But I think you're right just wait and see. You may or may not wind up overseas. Your order may or may not get built anytime soon. The market may or may not continue to soften. One thing for sure - you don't want to finish grad school with a mountain of debt. Being debt free is so liberating!
