I finally used my little NOCO boost plus jump box for the first time. WOW, is the correct word.

I needed to jump-start a friend's car the other night, and I took my regular jumper cables and the NOCO boost. I really did not think it was going to work, but it did. The small surprise is that the built-in light was actually helpful.

I did start a bit slower than the old-fashioned jumper cables, but it worked. Glad I got the 1000A version https://amzn.to/4tH65Uc

I thought it was worth sharing in case you were wondering if these things work.

As long as you understand the 1000A / 2000A / 4000A thing applies for half a second.

Actually the 4000A may be 0.25 seconds.

Gotta read the fine print.

NOCO is a decent brand.
Many of us mechanics use one. I have a GBX45, its very small and light weight.

They're great!

I have a hulkman one,

https://amzn.to/4aydnk6

that I've had for the last few years.

I make sure to discharge them (by bringing them inside and charging other devices from them until empty) and slow charge them a couple times a year. I had some generic one years ago that ended up dying because I just left it charged up and unused for years. LiPo batteries don't like to be stored at 100% for years.

Some rigorous tests of jump boxes by an independent reviewer, worth a watch if you're interested in one.

I bought this one 10 years and probably used at least 15 times, mostly on other people's vehicles and it's still going strong. I've done nothing but charge to full every so often. And prior to my Mav I had a RAM 1500 Hemi and it had no problem starting it when needed. This is not available but just wanted to share the longevity of it.

Have similar unit (looks the same) and carry it in my snowmobile for jumpstarting. With a 4 stroke snowmobile, if battery is low you are shit out of luck. Never carried till I needed, now do.. Buddy I was with had and we used it every morning (except the 1st) on a 7 day back pack trip up in Canada. Obviously I got a new battery on return. I even had it tested prior to the beginning of the season and was told it was fine. Will replace my current one for next season (in 3rd year) if I don't buy a new snowmobile. lol.

I wonder if the jump box you show would crank my Cummings diesel Motorhome?
Unfortunately that one is no longer available but I would have to hope the technology has improved after all these years. So I'd look for something much newer if I was in your shoes. If you happen to be from the Long Island area I'd be happy to let you try it and another newer one I have for another car to see if either is powerful enough.

I thought these were a joke but we got one at work and it never failed to get a truck going, it would even start the diesel. I got one on a black friday special for $80 and keep it under the back seat.
