Having the antenna on the roof?

I've seen a few people respond negatively to it. What's the deal?

Nothing is wrong with it. Most people would just prefer the short shark fin style antenna without the mast poking up from it. That’s what’s getting all the hate.
Thank you. I guess I just don't understand it. I have the same antenna as the stock antenna on the Maverick on my 2012 Ford focus and I've never once questioned or wished for something different. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t mind it either. Better than the whip sticking up from the fender! But some do.
That was my next question, what do they want instead. IMO, it's better than something on the hood

I don't mind the aesthetic, but I can see it getting in the way when carrying long items on a rack. A liw profile fin like many cars now have would be better.

BTW, I have not complained about it on this forum. I don't get the point of all the complaining. Buy the Mav or don't. I don't need to hear about all your angst.

That's a good point about longer items.

I'm not sure I understand your "BTW..." Comment. Care to elaborate?

Question: does the short whip get better reception than just the shark fin type or would it be about the same reception? I live down in the country and we are always losing signal. Don't know if this type antenna would be better or would I need to get a reception booster?

The op asks "why all the hatin'?"
I was just pointing out that while I do see a negative to the design, I had not previously complained about it. There is a lot of pointless complaining on this forum.

Besides long items it is in the way for a hardshell rooftop tent or any cargo carrying system like the rhino rack ones it is in the way

With all the gloating Ford is doing about how the Maverick is for an active lifestyle and flexibility this was a glaring miss. Luckily it is fixable aftermarket

The whip is unnecessary and the fin should be color matched to the vehicle in a perfect world but this is a budget truck.

I gotcha. I thought that the previous comment was directed at me somehow and was trying to figure that out.

I thought, hmmm...I don't think I complain too much, and most of the stuff that I do is just for a laugh. 🤣

I hear ya, and I wasn't trying to pile on the complaints, just trying to understand what's wrong with the current antenna design. I'll probably leave mine as it is and not think about it again. (Same as I did with my current car)

.... Good 'Nuff.

And they're forgetting that you can just unscrew the mast antenna.

Agree…..was disappointed to not get the shark fin.
