Friday, I fly to Philly (will explain later) to pick up "Dirk 41" , (The Greatest Dallas Maverick Ever) and drive it back 1500 miles to Dallas.....well, not in one day. I drive fast but not that fast.

So what do I Inspect? What do I need to be on the lookout for? Been scared enough by the paint threads but those have died off. And the "my Mav broke down 8 feet out of the dealer lot" .....or the "blah blah blah".......talk everywhere on this forum.

Any ideas on things to check? I am usually not diligent on these things but if I have a list, I can follow it.

Any suggestions? Thank you and will update next week!

I wouldn't worry too much about things breaking. Yes there are lemons, but there's waaaay more vehicles that are just fine... people just don't write about 'nothing happened stories.

Still, if you're looking for a list...
At the dealership:
1. Have someone show you all the fluid locations and how to access/check.
2. How to adjust seats, mirrors, etc...
3. How to pair phone to the infotainment system/setup car play

After buying:
1. At your first rest stop, take the owners manual and read through the index and sections that interest you.
2. Set up some preferences using this info to make the rest of your trip easier.

Those are my $.02. Congrats and good luck on your trip back to TX.

You are a braver man than I am, Gunga Din.

AS I read these posts, the phrase "Beta Tester" keeps coming to mind.

Good luck to you.

Download the owner's manual from this forum. You can look it over on your iPad on the flight to Philly.

Check the body, paint, and glass for damage that might have occurred in transit. You'll never get a warranty claim for exterior issues through after you've driven the truck from Philly to Dallas. Use your phone to document anything that doesn't look right. Advise the dealer to take a report as well.

Make sure the dealer knows you're taking a road trip and that they've double-checked fluids and tire pressure. Sounds obvious, but stupid stuff gets missed all the time.

Try to vary your speed and rpm as much as you can and go easy on it for at least the first few hundred miles.

Check for chipped paint on the back edge of the hood where the windshield wiper arm would contact. That was the only issue with my truck and I saw it while driving it home from the lot.

My truck is now in production and as my highly anticipated pickup day begins to loom more closely, I'm thinking of the things I need to do on that day to make the pickup and payment process go as smoothly as possible. I'm a big fan of checklists. What would you have on your checklist? What hiccups did you encounter that your could have been better prepared for?

**Updated Checklist**

Before Car Arrives to Dealer
  1. Add car to insurance
  2. Contact dealer for
    1. Request no dealer add-ons. E.g. paint or upholstery protection.
    2. Request no advertising decals be placed on the truck.
    3. Request no front plate bracket
    4. Request all firmware updates be installed (radio and remote start)
    5. Request no wash if their wash isn’t brushless
  3. Financing
    1. Check third party financing options.
    2. Possibly get pre-approved for Ford credit
  4. Sell current vehicle private party or have offer from Carmax/Carvana for negotiation at dealer.
Day of Pickup
  1. Check Vehicle for Damage or Flaws. See Ford Pre-Owned Checklist
    1. Scratches on interior panels
    2. Upholstery for stains
    3. Glass imperfections and optical quality
    4. Fluid leaks
    5. Under chassis for scrapes, esp jacking points
  2. Check vehicle VIN against assigned VIN from Ford
  3. Check Apple Carplay or Android Auto
  4. Maverick specific inspection items
    1. Confirm all chips/hardware is factory installed
    2. Confirm whip antenna is installed
    3. Check sound barriers between front doors and front fenders
    4. Check tailgate for level
  5. Check for accessories
    1. Check for complimentary FITS accessory kit (from parts dept)
    2. Check for 12V flex bed power accessory cable (glove box)
    3. Check for plastic fuel funnel
    4. Check for jack and spare tire
    5. Check for owners manual

In Financing Office
  1. Check purchase price against DORA.
  2. Have Farm Bureau $500 incentive applied
  3. Request Smart Vincent financing terms.
  4. Ask if any additional incentives are available through Smart Vincent
  5. Ask for free oil changes

Oh, btw, I wouldn't wear a cowboys jacket through philly...

Take along a USB memory stick with some music loaded on it to test and make sure your USB ports are actually wired up.

Glad to hear you’re finally getting it! If it helps you sleep any better mine was perfectly fine picking it up and on the drive from Columbus I didn’t get any paint chips, then again mine was ceramic coated at the dealership. I didn’t have any other issues either. One thing I would be careful of is scratching the interior, it’s super easy. I’ve got a fairly noticeable mark next to the door handle where my watch would rub it when I opened the door from the inside. I’ve started being really careful not to let my wrist touch the door, so if you wear one definitely watch out for that (sorry, bad joke I know). I hope everything goes well and you have a pleasant trip back!

Hopefully nobody at the dealership tries to sabotage it knowing he’s from Dallas, wouldn’t put it past an Eagles fan

FITS Kit if it's important to you. 1500 miles is a long ways away to drive back to get it.
Only piece I'm using out of a few in the kit is the trash receptacle. Everything else is, well..... trash.

The number one thing you need to check first is the VIN. Make sure it matches the one you received from your dealer/Ford. If the VIN matches then it should have every option you ordered.
After that just make sure everything works.

Walk into the dealership with a smile. Listen to their sales pitch. Just stay quiet. Don’t tell them about your winter vacation or your dog. Say no to all their add ons. Just sit there as they make you think something might go wrong. Don’t let the dealer upset you..

Once again, don’t talk much to them. Read up on the Maverick. You will know more than they do. Get out of the dealership as quick as you can. Enjoy your truck.
