Picked up my Cactus Grey Hybrid XL (two options: back seat plug and tow-hitch) last night from Villa Ford in Orange, CA. REALLY GREAT SALES EXPERIENCE!! No markup....straight MSRP.
Originally ordered 10/31/21. Re-ordered 9/20/22.
Scheduled on 2/9/23 for 4/17/23 build week.
Notified 3/7/23 that build was pushed back to week of 4/24/23.
"In-production" 4/25/23.
"Built" 4/30/23.
"Shipped" 5/3/23.
In Nogales, AZ 5/7/23.
Mira Loma, CA. Union Pacific Auto Facility 5/10/23.
Delivered to dealer morning of 5/11/23 and I took delivery that evening after dealer prep.
From beginning of production to "in my driveway" took 16 days!!! Maybe a record??
The guys at Villa Ford were not very communicative throughout the 550 day wait...... but to be fair, there really wasn't anything to communicate. They were waiting just like me. Yesterday afternoon my sales rep called and said it would be ready for delivery late afternoon. I told him i didn't want any add-ons or extras.....he gave me two exact prices: one with extended warranty and one without. I went without (maybe buy later with Granger). Went to credit union....got a cashiers check for the exact amount ($23,835) and I was in and out of the dealership in 90 minutes. Finance guy pushed fairly hard for the extended warranty....and I politely declined.
I was able to stack the $500 Farm Bureau rebate with the $2750 Private Offer....so I got $3250 off.
Sales guy told me that I could drive down the street to Carmax or Carvana and make a quick $10K.... I replied "I know!!"
Bounced around the OC last night ....... I really like it!!
My biggest pieces of advice for those still waiting:
1. DO THE FARM BUREAU!!! I did Rock Island County Illinois for $20. It got accepted here in California NO PROBLEM. Spend $20 to save $500....I like that math!!
2. DO NOT "GIVE UP" YOUR ORDER!! Even if you have already bought something else like Santa Cruz or Ridgeline..... DO NOT reward your dealership with a $5K-$10K "gift" by abandoning your order. Buy it and then resell it for more. It really is a no-brainer.
3. Have your private offer certificate number IN HAND....as well as your Farm Bureau certificate number IN HAND well BEFORE your truck arrives!! Send both to your sales rep and MAKE HIM respond with confirmation that the certificate numbers are good, stackable, and WILL BE used upon delivery!! This will help you avoid any potential drama the day you take delivery. A couple of weeks ago I chatted with the GM who said that "I have never heard of a Farm Bureau discount.....and discounts are NOT stackable". I said "BULLSHIT..... I will send you the certificate numbers for the Private Offer and Farm Bureau and you can do your due diligence from your end to confirm that in fact they ARE stackable". He later said that I was right and he was mistaken. I feel that this interaction WEEKS BEFORE delivery saved a whole shitload of drama on delivery day.....because if they didn't honor both certificates after waiting 550 days I would have gone Postal on their asses.
4. If you live in California....use the address of a friend or relative that lives in a conservative city that still has the 7.75% sales tax (Orange, Costa Mesa, etc...etc..etc). I messed up by ordering with my Santa Ana address at 9.25%. Most woke L.A. County cities are near 11%. I paid almost $400 extra in taxes yesterday because I didn't have the foresight to buy with a relatives address in the city of Orange instead of my woke-ass city of Santa Ana address. Remember, the tax is not based upon the dealer location in California....it is based upon the address YOU use for the purchase. Knowing that going in will help you decide which address to use. You can always "change back" to your actual home address on the vehicle registration AFTER purchase!!
