If I am not mistaken, I believe Hermosillo built the old Escort that was Mazda based back in the 1990's. I believe the plant moved to producing the Focus in 2000 when that car came here from Ford of Europe. This plant has been producing vehicles for Ford for many years already.

Edit: from Wikipedia - "At its inception, the plant was jointly owned by Ford and Mazda,[2] the two companies sharing production techniques. Initially all parts were shipped from Japan for final assembly of the 323 and Tracer models."

The plant opened in 1986. I believe the target demographic for the Maverick was probably not even born yet.

By the way, the Mercury Tracer was the Mercury version of the Ford Escort.
I did some research and you are correct. I also went to the Hermosillo website where the Mexica government offers incentives for Ford and suppliers to expand and maintain operations on Hermosillo. If Subaru can manufacture vehicles in the United States and be profitable, why cant Ford do the same thing? They are not giving away these vehicles. You will not get out the door for under 24,000, and a Lariat will come in at the mid 30’s. That i not chicken feed.
I‘m a capitalist. I want Ford to be successful. I also want the united States worker to be able to afford their products. I’ve got no bone to pick with Mexico. They are doing the right thing for their folks.

The Maverick is a unique offering which fits my lifelstyle. I am not complaining about the wait. I am commenting on the potential for quality issues, and the desire to keep good manufacturing jobs in the United States. your government has done a good job of anchoring Ford to your location for 30 years. The site has been rebuilt several times to accommodate new models. I wish our government had the same high regard for it’s citizens as Mexico had for theirs. You are to be congratulated.
The quality issues will be resolved. They always are. The wait is no big deal. I am not in a hurry, and there will be plenty of vehicles to buy in the near future.

I agree. I have a neighbor who is rebuilding Michigan plants. They are highly Automated with robotics. This is not about labor alone. I dont understand how ford could cpmmit to a Mexican plant after watching Honda fight Quality issues for several years at the HRX plant. An entire line was built to reork vehicles that could not pass inspection.
I want a Maverick, but I’’ need to wait until the first several thousand are delivered and get 90 days of road time. That will likely take me into first quarter next year.
Just as an FYI, the Maverick plant has produced great quality product in the past - the Ford Fusion was built there, and was a great product with great build quality.

Just as an FYI, the Maverick plant has produced great quality product in the past - the Ford Fusion was built there, and was a great product with great build quality.
I hope they keep up the good quality standards. I want to purchase soon. Rework will slow down producton.
