Usb and cellphone

My son told me yesterday that his cellphone down loaded the songs from my truck usb! I expected something was wrong a couple months ago so I have been turning off the phone before i enter the truck. Also Im no longer connected thru Bluetooth. frank

I know the truck does not have a usb drive but it does have a usb port. I insert my usb thumb drive into the usb port and the truck plays my recorded songs thru a tuner? and into my trucks speakers

Chances are good that there's next to no network security practices involved with the in truck wifi. If you are concerned, disable your truck Wi-Fi.

Pretty sure the issue is not really you turning off YOUR phone.

Pretty sure the issue was your son connected with HIS phone to your truck - which would have required being preset to accept that on the screen, or plug in a cable to the other USB for charging for instance.
Then he got access to the thumb drive contents.

Was there some concern you are trying to express, or question?
Or just letting us know your son got your music, and hopefully likes it?

You have data plan in truck? One of my mavericks was delivered without the WiFi chip. I can use connect to truck and play/download utube music through phones data plan with either truck. Maybe you have a free trial truck data plan which will be billed to your account after the free period.

The point i was trying to make is that another entity might pick up my usb thru the ford system and if that is true the world can also so it might be prudent to not have sensitive material on your usb drive? I explored u tube checking out low jacks etc. A some post mention one piggy backed on their obd installed by their dealer. I have not asked my son if he liked my music but he mentioned over time he like waltz across texas and chatanooga cho cho.

I do not use my phone in wi fi mode and i dont know if the truck is in a wi fi I get a lot of scam calls im 87 its hard for me to handle them. I dont know if i mentioned that my hartford ins went up 500 dollars been with them 8 years no tickets, claims or accidents. My son might like the Pogues.

As I understand, if you connect with Bluetooth then any data (possibly if streamed or if longer than SMS 140+/- char) Bluetooth can activate WiFi. It has its own wifi enable/disabled setting. I don't expect that to allow your son to access your thumb drive through Bluetooth.

He required a cabled connection. Pretty sure a response on the truck screen to allow.

I don't see where Sync3 auto-connects WiFi between truck & phone when a BlueTooth connection is made for audio - that is indeed Sync4 though on 25MY.

If someone is in your truck and has fob to turn it on to do a sync - you got bigger problems.

If you are giving someone a ride and allowing them to control your info screen and you don't trust them - then ya a potential problem.

Always nice when the kid can at least appreciate your music.

He has a traffic app on his phone that gives a warning when there is bad traffic ahead. I was driving and had the nav on. He was in the passenger seat monitoring his app and sure enough It found bad traffic. It saved or buts we would have been on the road much longer. That might be it but it was 7 months ago. frank
