Update / upgrade / modify the bed cubby?

As Monty Hall might have said, "Let's see what's behind Door Number One." It seems the storage cubbies on the XL are not included though a cover panel is in that spot. So, does anyone know what I will see if I take off the four bolts on the cover? Just the inside of the space behind? Might this be easily adapted and wingnuts or something be added to allow easy access to this space? Could I drill a hole in the cover there and add a 12v socket wired into the provided harness under the other cover. Or might the cubby be ordered later from Ford to insert into that spot so the XL owner would then have the same cubby as comes on the XLT and Lariat? This seems like a good spot for all kinds of DIY modifications.

It will just be empty space - no other plastic, I believe you'll be looking into the wheel well. You absolutely could drill it and add a 12v socket or other similar ideas that I'm sure are out there. It is a blank canvas for you!
