Survey data from vehicle research firm Strategic Vision shows a third of today’s pickup owners rarely or never use their truck for hauling, while two-thirds rarely or never use it for towing.
source AXIOS Article is focused on big trucks, not compact trucks like Maverick.

Will you actually use your truck for hauling and towing?
These polls and concerns about what somebody else does with their full size truck are so childish.

Does every person wearing athletic clothing need to be working out? Does everyone with a sports car need to drive it 100mph? If you drive a Jeep Wrangler do you need to be at the beach or on the trail 24/7?

If somebody wants a $70,000 F150 as their daily driver to go shopping, to the grocery store or just to pick up their kids from school, who cares. Some people might never tow or haul but the piece of mind knowing they can if the situation arises is worth it to them.

I won't be doing much hauling, my Mav will be mostly a daily driver and grocery getter with the occasional run to the dump or the hardware store.

I also don't plan to do any towing, but if I did it would likely just be a small trailer with my motorcycle on it.

Thats a part of what went into my decision to order the hybrid.

I agree on principle. Everyone can choose what they want (within their budget and availability of course). I won't judge.

When we were talking about getting a small truck to replace the aging car that I'm going to be passing down to my son capabilities were certainly one thing we looked at.

For us the decision to get a smaller, more economical truck like Maverick made sense.

We don't need those capabilities with any kind of regularity, and figured with the money we saved on the purchase and on fuel costs we could just rent a full size from Uhaul if we ever need to do something the Maverick can't.

That was just our conversation and our decision based on our needs. Other families will have different wants and needs.

I've also seen folks that buy things (vehicles or anything else) just for the look of it. I don't care what others think, but some folks do.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

For me, this is exactly why I am so drawn to this truck and why I feel the Maverick is my spirit vehicle. In almost every aspect, the Maverick is a compact/crossover SUV. From it's lowered stance, smooth ride and handling, to it's standard, family friendly cabin and good to great fuel economy. It just happens to look like a truck and have an open bed instead of an enclosed cargo area.

If the Maverick never came to be, and I hadn't stumbled upon it's existence when looking for an affordable small truck in the fall of 2021, I likely would have ended up buying an older high mileage 4wd Nissan frontier and been apart of this statistic of truck owners that rarely do truck things with their trucks.

I really only need a truck once or twice a year and would typically borrow my dad's. The Maverick fits perfectly into this kind of lifestyle. I get my perfect family vehicle and daily commuter (that still fits in our small 2 car garage) and it has just the right capability to do the truck things I need to do very seldomly.

Over the last 50 years I’ve owned numerous Ford trucks and have towed a trailer maybe a dozen times. A lot of those trucks were 4x4, which I might have needed 3-4 times. I buy a truck because they are roomy, comfortable, retain their value and on the rare occasion I need to carry something that’s too messy for car I can do it without worrying about messing up inside of a car.

I have now hauled wood, tile, stone, dirt, sand, french doors, bikes, 36qts of baked beans, etc, etc. Not the nicest build quality. But it's hard to argue a small bed and 43mpg.

Just like awd. You probably don't need it 99% of the time (at least where I live) but that 1% driving through ultra slippery ice you need it and would pay anything for it at that moment.
So you need awd to accelerate on that ice? Because AWD aint doing much when it comes to stopping or turning.

Replacing our 6 speed Crosstrek with a Mav. Will be nice to have the additional towing so we can bring our other small Yamaha bike not pictured on a slightly larger trailer. Subaru did well and I'll never say it wasn't capable, but climbing up Monarch Pass is intense with this load. Outside of trailering the bed will be hauling tree/yard waste constantly during the warmer months and a constant supply of remodeling trash and junk.

Hopefully I can stop towing, it's why I want the bed. I'm planning on selling both my trailers when the Maverick gets here. I have a trailer hooked up to my car nearly once a week in the summer pulling a motorcycle somewhere.

As far as concerns with how other people use their full size trucks, at least work out cloths and sports cars don't affect anyone else. Full size trucks increase traffic, decrease parking, and pose a safety risk for other motorists and pedestrians around them. People have a right to buy them and use them however they want, but we're allowed to judge them on their decision making.

Axios isn't sharing this as a matter of intellectual curiosity. They have an agenda like everyone else. They need to let people do what they want. The whole point of a free press is to harass the government, not your fellow citizens.

But ignoring that, who cares? I have a generator in my garage and have used it four times in the last seven years. But I've greatly appreciated having it all four times. What people do with their vehicles falls well within the category of "none of your business."

Looking at annual mileage I tow somewhere around 2% of the time. I don't do truck stuff and my Maverick lives in the garage but if they didn't offer the 4k I would be driving another Ranger or Colorado.
Funny how we prioritize our needs or wants. :)

Buying a truck and not towing but actually having the ability, is in my mind like buying a fire extinguisher or a fire arm for home protection.
Even though one may never need any of those, there is no substitute.

We are specifically switching to a Maverick hybrid because it DOES have a box and CAN tow. We are switching from another popular hybrid that we’ve owned them for over 10 years.

Assuming our ‘23 Maverick EVER GETS BUILT.

I like having not to worry about getting the inside of my car or SUV dirty if I happen to pickup firewood, bales of hay,etc...unexpectedly. This truck is doin' the job for me.
