I am placing an order for my Maverick, I like the idea of the ford/bakflop tri fold cover. Happened to go to ziebart in Ohio and they had all displays including the BAKFlip.
I kind of liked the flat surface of this brand called undercover truck bed. And they had one more 100 more that is like powder coated metal on both sides. It’s like 200 more than ford, but was told by buying at this place it’s free install and 10 year warranty.

My question is, bakflip vs this other brand, are they equal in quality? The guy showed me
How the undercover doesn’t lean against the truck cabin, the shocks keep them suspended in air in the upright position which I kinda like the idea

Also, if I buy extended esp does tonneau cover get the additional time and coverage?

I read a lot about Bak quality suffering lately, and also about how most tonneau manufacturers are owned by private equity funds these days, including both of the ones you're asking about. I'm not doubting that those things are related. Private equity funds are rarely a positive thing for a brand, as they're more concerned about profits than anything else.

When I was looking for a cover recently, I considered everything but I ended up getting a Diamondback, the Switchback trifold specifically. It was more money than I really wanted to spend, and it doesn't flip up against the back of the cab, but I think the benefits outweigh those minor disadvantages. It will be fine with a heavy snow load, I can carry stuff on top of it, there's nothing to absorb or collect moisture, it's way more secure than a soft cover, and I won't have to replace it in a few years.

I don't have the cover or the truck yet, so I can't give a full review, but they should both be getting here in the next few weeks. I have a Renegade cover on my F350, and while the Diamondback isn't as heavy, it should still be really nice.

If I hadn't gotten the Diamondback, my next choice was probably going to be an Extang Trifecta. They hold up better than most soft covers though, despite the manufacturer being owned by a private equity firm, and I like that there's nothing extra to attach to the bed rails.

All in all, if you like the Undercover, or the Bak, I think most people are generally pretty happy with them. I doubt Ford's ESP is going to cover any aftermarket or third party accessories though.

If you go for it, I'll look forward to hearing what you think.

My thoughts: I bought a $399 tri fold unit off Amazon. I plan on getting about 5 years max out of it, then buy another one. Does water get in? Yes. If anyone tells you different, they are lying. There is a 5mm gap on the tailgate side, where water will get in. It's still a truck bed, If I wanted an SUV, I would have bought one.

I bought the Ford branded hard roll up cover using my Ford Points. This was back in 2022. It had two strips of felt lining that you would use to help roll/unroll it and after about a year, they both completely fell off, leaving a sticky, gluey residue. I think it's been updated with a more durable rubber instead. I believe Bak was the creator of the Ford one.

I decided on a retractable bed cover due to it’s durability. Buy it once and forget about it. It was more expensive than some options but those same options will have to be replaced in time whereas the retractable won’t. I got mine from Truck2Go. Total for product, shipping and install was $1007! So shop around and you might be able to get a better deal tgan the dealership.

Try the Keko site. They offer the Sport Bar and matching Tonneau cover options that work together. Very sharp on my black Tremor!

A lot of the hard folding tonneau covers are rebranded, made by the same company just a different brand slaps their name on it. Best to do your research and shop around, most times you can get the same cover with a different name on it for hundreds less.

I chose to go with the rough country tri-fold low profile and for 600 shipped I'm very happy with it.

I bought a rough country trifold hard tonneau cover and I am very pleased with it plus it's about 3 to $400 cheaper than the bakflip

I got my backflip (oem) for 1080, which is same price they quoted me using discount. (granger price) so it seemed like the best deal to try it out. the 24 model I tested drove yesterday had the oem one, and honestly. it was really nice! so bit bullet.

You've got to watch which one you buy because some of them only flip twice where the best ones flip three times
