Yeah, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one. A DIY shim on day one of a $33,000 car isn’t in the cards for me.
If it doesn't work even if you close it according the the procedure in the manual, you always have the option of taking it back to the dealer. No doubt they can put the washer in for you.

I picked up my new Maverick yesterday from the dealership and of course when I got home I had to play with everything on the truck including folding down the rear seat. I hadn't even taken the owners manual out of the glove box yet. Then I couldn't get it to latch back into place and I was thinking great now I already have to go back to the dealership after only only owning the truck for an hour. Luckily I did a quick search here to see that this is basically how it works and once I went to the passenger side and slammed it up it finally latched.

And the passenger side is where we should be for safety sake when removing jack for changing tire anyway.

Yeah, I had the same issue. A nice firm but not excessive slam latched the seat

Mine has the same issue. Regardless of which side you attempt to latch it from, or where you push, or how you hold the latch, the only thing that works is slamming it way harder than you'd expect. Once the rain breaks, I'll look at the latch more to tweak or lubricate, but it definitely is not working properly.
mine won’t latch at all ,i’ve been wandering what the clunking noise was when braking ever since dec 2022.. checked it out & decided to shim catch on back wall of cab. figured after the rubber bumpers mash in over time on seat back & seat starts rattling i can remove shim & all should be good.no vehicle is perfect,i love my first edition
