Ford marketing labels the same basic [e.g. Gray] color ["Cactus Gray", "Jet Fighter Gray", "Azure Gray (Pearl)", "Avalanche Gray", etc.] to appeal to the perceived nature [i.e. adventurous, more active, more passive, etc.] of the expected "model demographics" for a specific model.

Color Codes:

[2023] Fighter Jet Gray: 1JJA, 1JJAWHA, 7457, M7457, M7457A, NE

[2023] Avalanche Gray: 7344, DR, FXFA, FXFAWHA, M7344A

[2023] Cactus Gray: NE/M7457

[2024] Azure Gray [Pearl]: 3C5G, 7480, G4, M7480 -- Tri-coat/ metallic, expect to pay a premium on the 2024 models.

The codes may be regularly updated but the color is basically the same.

Bonus:

[2024] Terrain: 7290, DTMA, DTMAWHA, M7290, VA -- New 2024 Maverick color.

So... Fighter Jet and Cactus are the same color?

... or they have some of the same color ingredients?

I'm confused. What do all the codes mean?

I’ve heard before the are the same but I really don’t think so Cactus Grey depends on the light really, sometimes it looks flat grey other times you can see a green hue to it either way it’s a great color and it really doesn’t show dirt

Cactus Gray and Fighter Gray are exactly the same color. When you buy paint the swatch comes with both names on it.

Some OEMS love renaming colors until they reach a name that is a hit with customers. Others can keep the same color for decades because they landed on a combination of color and name that is a hit (Mazda Soul Red Metallic).

If you Google how OEMs pick colors, it is a crazy complex process. There are consultants, including of course entire companies that specialize in paint. How many coats, how thick, metal flecks, clearcoat, hardness, application difficulty, cost, environmentally sound process - it is a whole science.
