I ordered the Ford tailgate assist today. Anyone that has it installed, are you glad you did it, or not that much of an advantage? I went back and forth on it cuz I didn't want to lose a tie down, but then I thought I probably wouldn't use it that much. Waiting to get my truck now to install it.

I installed one yesterday. As others said in previous topics, when installed correctly, the stainless steel bolt rubs against the piston. Easy fix. Remove and file the bolt head, it is a deep recessed Phillips head. Plenty of metal to file down. Use the proper size screw driver tip and reinstallation is not a problem. I placed a 1" X 1" piece of 3m door sill tape on the piston to seal the scratches the bolt caused before filing it down.

The piston is only a convenience item. Yes I like it and its a low cost upgrade.

Spray it with Boshield, both sides before install. Its plated metal so its really not necessary.
