Sliding rear window. Did you order it for your Maverick? Is it useful?

This will be my first truck and I own a station wagon where I can load 10' long pvc pipes or lumber in the vehicle.
How common/practical will be to insert a bunch of 2x6 through the open rear glass up to the dashboard? The sliding rear window area look small and fragile, and maybe even annoying / limiting the rear visibility.
Do you see a way to transport 12'-16' lumber during short trips to the hardware store without installing a rack?
I almost never use the rear sliding window, but definitely love having the option, I did used like 5+ time to carry 2x4's 16 feet long, as long you put a tower on the lower part of the window to avoid scratches you'll good to go.

I think that is better having the option and don't need it, than need it and no having the option.

I have not used mine yet. It is standard on the Lariat.
To be honest I have yet to figure which button opens it. When at the dealer it opens fine.
a couple lifetimes ago I used my sliding window a lot. I would open that window and the vents and could get a nice air flow without ac.

I've used it a bunch of times for hauling longer building materials and quite a few times when my ex's dog was in the back seat so she could poke her head through. So much better than opening a side window for the dog especially at highway speeds and I didn't have to worry about the dog scratching the door panel area. The sliding rear was definitely a good $150 or so option, glad I got it.

Truck was dealer ordered so no sliding rear window . wouldn't order it anyway . had one in f150 and didn't use . have removable roof rack ( Yakima ) from f150 that also fits maverick if I ever need to carry anything long . use money to order window for roof rack .

A really easy Fix. Spend a couple hundred dollars and get a harbor freight trailer. You can even buy the one that folds in half if storage is an issue. I have one they work great and way better than sticking things through your rear window.

Get the hitch attachment or get a truck. That rear portal looks pretty useless other than getting your head stuck or making your head swell, due to the coolness of having more options than others. A good status symbol.

It works great if you have a sunroof, I bought a couple 10’ pieces of deck lumber which I ran thru the window (put some towels on the windows opening) and barely up thru the sunroof. They were braced against thee slightly ope tailgate and strapped down. Also used it for 8’ wood quarter round several times.

XLT with sliding rear window. Use it frequently in summer and fall seasons. For ventilation. No issues with it being manual. I don't mind the time to open it or close it.
I do not use it for hauling long items. Not safe, too much risk of damage.
Would I order it again? Yes.

If you need a vehicle to move long boards, or pipes, the Maverick is not for you. The sliding rear window is small, I bought a 1" PVC pipe put it through the window, and laid it on the dashboard. Wrapped a towel around it and closed the window to hold it in place. By the time I got home, my dashboard was scratched beyond repair. I bought a dashpad to hide the damage.

I'm now wondering if the angle would work to go through the moonroof and out the window into the bed?

See @Falcon first post 67 above.
wow, how did I miss that? I was even watching for it!

there are some 16' 4x4s that need to be hauled (hopefully) this year for the carport that the Maverick and F-150 will lounge under.

I don't know, 16' 4x4's might be a little more of a challenge than 10' 1x6's.

I had it on my 23 Lariet. Actually used it quite a bit in mild weather. Can crack it and front windows for good air circulation.

Don't know if I'd spend much for it as option by itself.....but really was useful in nice weather.
