I have lived on the North Oregon Coast for 45 years and never experienced rodent damage like I have in my 23 Maverick this winter. Rodents ate two wiring harnesses. Now in the shop until March. I sprayed the engine with peppermint oil. Put Irish Spring soap bars in (rodents ate the soap too!). Now I understand soy is used in wiring cover and rodents are attracted to soy. Damage is exlstimated to be $5,000. Any suggestions on what to use to detract rodents? I’m at a loss. Love my Maverick but now am afraid! Anyone else experiencing this?

Why do they use soy in the wire covering? Should use something that would kill the rodents if they chewed them, least the probably would go away eventually.

I've had issues with mice in the past and what I've found to work is to put a handful of moth balls in a tube sock, tie it closed and keep it on the ground under the center of the vehicle.

I’ve used Bounce drier sheets in my Camaro for years, a few in engine bay and a few inside on the floors. No rodent signs.

My mav was attacked as well. I got rodent spray from Home Depot, and I park with the hood open. I spray the wheel wells in front every few weeks and have a rag on the ground under the engine, sprayed as well. Over one year and no reattacks.

I got chewed on as well. The critter took out my front left turn signal. $220. to get it fixed. I really need to get my garage in order so I can park it inside.

I live in a geographically similar area as you, and had a rodent issue until we got an outdoor cat. She's a good mouser, so no more rodent issues.

They come in my garage. Found some in my Mustang, but other than some turds they did not damage anything. So far so good with the Maverick. Put traps out and caught 2 mice immediately. Seems like they were the only ones. Moth balls, a lot of moth balls, seem to keep them away. Usually.

I was just about to say this. I don’t really want a cat but with $5k damage I think I could put up with it. I had pretty bad rodent damage in our Range Rover and it was like $3k. Made sure to put it in garage every night after that. Don’t have the RR anymore and now Mav is in garage every night.

I thought the same when I found them in my Focus. Years later, I developed a intermittent horn that after some time I traced back to the fuse box. I opened up the fuse box and spent a couple of hours splicing in new sections of about 8 wires that were missing insulation and were partially chewed through. It had been at least 5 years since mice had access to the car.

That electrical work would have likely cost $2K or more in diagnosis and labor had I not fixed it myself.

Same as my garage, don’t know how they get in, thought it was sealed good. 3 traps with peanut butter and cheese and I’ve caught a few. Damn rodents! Good luck!

Yep that's the sure fire answer. OP and others with the issue needs to get some Feral Cats!

No problems here and I live in a wooded rural area.
