Rear end noise

Just picked up a 25 lariat. Noticed driving out of the dealership a cyclical noise from the left rear. I had to get home so I couldn’t have the service department look at it. The noise increases along with speed, but it is quite obvious at very low speed. It sounds like a tire with a flat spot or possibly a rear bearing? Any thoughts?

Is this more of a tap/thump repetitive sound, or more of a scraping/metal on metal type sound? Might also be different depending upon if you're a Hybrid or EB model, you might want to fill out the vehicle profile.

If it's thump/tap/tic, check the tire for something in the tread. I've had a nail, screw, or stone wedged in a tire, which caused a tap/slight thump sounds that varied with speed. - Of course if it's a nail/screw, you'll wish you had went strait to the service department and not home to document it was there at delivery, in case you need a tire. (Road hazard isn't covered by the warranty).

The scraping, squeal, or metal on metal could be anything from a bent brake shield lightly rubbing the rotor, to an axle or even rear differential issue, but that's what the warranty is for. (You'd expect the PDI would have caught something like that, however some dealers don't really perform a thorough PDI).

If you just picked up your new truck it sounds to me like it's an immediate, as soon as you can, trip back to the dealership... do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go directly to the dealership.

I didn't have that noise when I picked mine up, but noticed that there was a lot of tire noise and rode a little rough. After learning where most of the features are and setting, come to find out, 3 of the 4 tires are way over inflated. The lowest pressure was 37 (35 PSI by door placard) all the other 3 were in the 40"s with the highest being 44 PSI. I set them all back to 35 and it has made a difference, so much for $1199 dealer prep.

Took it to the dealer. It turns out none of the tires were balanced at the factory. I’m sure they pulled the mounted tires from inventory for installing on the assembly line so I am sure that other trucks manufactured at the same time will probably have the same problem.

Wheel bearing noise usually increases during cornering at speed . not unusual to have an occasional defective new wheel bearing . this is just information advice .
