Note: not a direct competitor to Maverick, but an indication of where market is heading.

Only just announced so still a lot of questions. Full Electric Ram with gas motor that only charges the battery. This, honestly, is likely the best option for truck users.

14,000lbs tow
130 kW generator
92 kWh battery
~690 mile total range; ~145 mile pure electric range

I was excited when i saw the Title of the thread. After reading the article im sad. The Ramcharger is a suv, not an electric truck, same as Lightning. Ford wasted the name on that pos.

No, I get it. When I first saw the name, I thought Ram was going to take on the Bronco. But, what Ram announced might be a good middle step for truck users who don't want to go full electric. Since the vehicle has a gas tank and power generator, it is essentially a PHEV but without any direct connection between the engine and wheels.

Honestly there is a lot I like about that setup. The interior is wildly impractical and the truck is definitely too big for my needs. But in the dream realm if Ford used the Mach-E AWD motors and and something like the 1.5(possibly NA) as a generator on something the size of the Maverick or Ranger. That would be something special. A platform I think Ford needs to expand is the Explorer platform. Unibody/longitudinal drive/electrified/range extended/medium duty. That would be something that truly would fit the needs of most. Offer that in pickup/van/SUV configuration like the old F/E series and it would fit the needs of most Americans coming off one platform.

this is the exact description of the systems used by this RamCharger.
In simplest forms, yes. But I think it will be a good help in transitioning people to EV. With 145 miles of EV range without the motor, 99% of my driving would be covered without using a drop of gas. But having the mobile generator like that means I don't have to worry when I go on long trips. I don't see why Ford couldn't do this with the Maverick. Use the Mach-E drive with a 150-mile range battery and the same engine that exists in the hybrid. 100% doable and I'd trade up if the 4K tow was still an option.

The Ramcharger was an "SUV" in 1974. Original dude was disappointed a modern version of this wasn't being brought back:

I grew up cruising around in one. My dad is a Mopar guy and has a 1979 with a 6.4 hemi swap. He pulls his little camper all over the US. Id love to have a new version of one.

I drive multiple vehicles. The Maverick is 1 of 7 and its not electric.
I think this one might have gone over your head.

Never liked the name Maverick either. Add it to the list of renamed stuff that should have been something else. Charger, Lightning, Maverick, Blazer and this.

It's a great idea and the Chevrolet volt used this system as for back as 2011. Well it's not that far back. We had them in our fleet in all departments of the city.😊

To be fair, the Ramcharger name makes sense for what it is: an EV Ram with a built in charger. My main concern with the name is there might be confusion between the Ramcharger and Dodge Charger... especially since they are made by the same company.

The difference was the option for the engine to direct drive the wheels in the Volt when needed.
