My '23 hybrid is in battery save mode and I want to buy a power pack to jump start if needed, but am uncertain (what brand/model is well regarded along with wanting to know) what amperage is recommended/required.

Thanks. I will probably purchase both the NOCO Genius 10 (charger) and the NOCO GB40 (power pack) but I'm confused by the amperage ratings of the various power packs available. I've seen a wide range (1,000--4,000) and quite frankly don't understand the difference. (Current Amazon price for the above $99.95 each).

For an engine this small, any of them would work. I have a $50 no-name Chinese brand unit and it's worked flawlessly for 5 years.

Go with the GB40. Ive jumped multiple strangers cars with it and its always worked. I charge it every few months and it sits under the backseat. Noco is reputable, dont try and save money and risk having a lithium fire in your car.

I honestly think it should be a law for people to have these in your car. The tech has come a long way and any sensible person should have one. Could save your life someday.

Yep, the 1000A is fine for jumping Mavericks and vehicles even larger than that. I have a BoostX 1250, but that was because I wanted USB-C, not necessarily the additional 250A.

On the charging side, you could probably get by just fine with the Genius 5 and save $30...

Hybrid doesn't use the 12V battery to start the engine. It uses the high voltage battery. Any power pack will work to give it the 12v.

Also power pack ratings are usually a total mess of various degrees of a**-pull numbers ranging from "read the small print on how it's more like 1/2 that rating in (not even cold-) cranking amps for 1 second" to the levels of hopeless optimism of random brand LED headlights.

Welcome. Here is some light reading:
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/battery-jump-start-pack…-worth-it.46239/

I have an EcoBoost but carry a Noco boost in the truck myself.

If you want to trickle charge the truck and try and avoid the deep sleep issues altogether, the Noco "Genius" models are highly regarded around here.
Also if you want an on board noco genius installed your Ford dealer can do it! (My dealer actually stocks them, maybe they all do?).

I recommend the HALO Bolt Ultimate 2.0 - I tried Norco and several chinese units with 'not so good results'. The Halo, while not the most powerful, has been better and holds charge longer. Beyond Jump starting, the Ultimate 2 has an air compressor works great, a 2 way USB C which is the most sense for both charging and phone boost, and also has a 110 outlet for low watt 110 appliances (flexibility). I dont like the travel bag so recommend buying a case for $18

Project Farm battery jump packs has had several tested reviews - the Noco jumper never rated well. I agree after borrowing the boss's.

That's latest.
Prior reviews good too.

I went for an Audew in 2020, which appeared to be the same as one of his well recommended ones during then current review. Basically same product different specs, different name slapped on it.
Minimal charging required - Only after I've used it for other people - which comes up often enough.
Maybe I charged once just to be sure before a long trip.

Not to be a pain but this (two batteries?) makes no sense to me.

In the hybrid there is the 12v battery that is needed for all the normal things the battery does. If it gets below a certain threshold, you get the battery saver mode to conserve battery so your car will have enough power to start. There is also the high voltage battery that runs the electric motor in the hybrid system. That battery is also used to start the gas motor. So your 12v battery has to have enough juice to run the computer in order to tell the high voltage system to start the motor.

Not sure if good practice, or required due to lawsuits when not done this way since it appears all the hybrids/electric vehicles do it (even Cybertruck but 48V system).

They don't want any of the 100-600 V of the HVB being available anywhere easily reachable, so the 12V closes the circuit to allow it thru when it's time, and remove it when it's not needed or in an accident.

So you need something smaller - might as well use 12V since so much hardware is already setup for that anyway - allows lights & radio to be used before key On to close that circuit and make the big one available.

ETA - this isn't much different than the 24V in your HVAC system closing the relay for the 240V to power on the AC.

Your truck is not necessarily in “save mode” because the battery is low. For example, my maverick sat for a month and a half without being started (because I use my FX4 maverick for adventuring and an EV for commuting). Then I decided to take the Mav for grocery shopping to make sure the battery was charged. It started fine, ran for 20 minutes, then was parked for a couple more weeks. Then I take my EV in to get a window motor fixed and I need to drive the Mav to work. After 2 weeks of sitting, it starts fine, I drive 50 minutes to work and a few hours after arriving, I get the notice that Ford pass has been disable to preserve battery charge. I am 99.9% sure that the battery is working fine, that it is at full charge and that Ford’s software is buggy.
