You don't know for sure its water, it could be any kind of fluid. According to my research on netflix, if you look up, there's a pretty good chance some kind of alien hanging from the ceiling will eat your face.

We used to have Lycos, AltaVista, etc until big brother moved in....Ahhh....those were the days when you had options, and the internet was the new "final frontier"

I know it sure as hell isn't runs in the paint. At least I wouldn't assume so, given we can see "water" on the adjacent trim.

Fair point, but the title of the thread is "Paint alongside top of rear window."

Aforementioned gap looks to be within tolerance to my eyes. This will be a mass-produced item after all.

Fair enough. Whatever it is, H2O, Alien saliva, giraffe urine, or just about any Houstonian this week that shook his head to get the sweat out of his eyes, I think we can all agree on the important thing: OP, charge your phone!
