It's about that time for me to start looking at new tires. I currently have the Michelin Primacy A/S that came with the truck. I'm considering getting them again but was also looking at the CrossClimate2 and the Defender2.

For those of you living in the Triangle in NC, what are your thoughts/opinions of those options? Are the CrossClimate2's overkill for this area?

Thanks.

After the largest snowstorm of the year just went through i would say they may be a little more than you need.🤪

I am just down Rt. 1 in Pinehurst from Dec-May. I think if it was me I would go with the Defender2. They might be quieter and not effect gas mileage as much.

I do have a friend down here who has the CC2 and loves them but he has a place in Banner Elk and does go over there in the winter sometimes.

I also have noticed quit a few vehicles in my area with the CC2's.

Good luck!

Both amazing tire choices.

I don't live in that area, but given the possible weather/snow conditions, I would choose the better snow rated tire, which is the Cross Climate 2.

Here is an excerpt and link with a great summary comparison:

https://drivecruise.com/michelin-defender-2-vs-crossclimate-2/

Michelin Defender 2:
The Go-To for Longevity and Fuel Efficiency

Drivers prioritizing fuel efficiency and longevity in their tires will find the Michelin Defender 2 to be a stellar choice. Ideal scenarios for the Defender 2 include:

  • Urban and Highway Commuting: If most of your driving involves city streets or highways, the Defender 2’s fuel efficiency shines, saving you money over the tire’s lifespan.
  • Mild Weather Conditions: For those living in areas with moderate climates, the Defender 2 offers dependable performance without the need for the advanced all-weather capabilities of the CrossClimate 2.
  • High-Mileage Drivers: Individuals racking up thousands of miles annually will appreciate the Defender 2’s exceptional tread life, offering extended periods between tire replacements.
Michelin CrossClimate 2:
The All-Weather Performer

For drivers who encounter varied and challenging weather conditions, the CrossClimate 2 emerges as the top choice. Use cases where it excels include:

  • All-Season Driving: Whether facing downpours, snow, or sunny days, the CrossClimate 2 adapts to changes in weather, providing peace of mind for safety-conscious drivers.
  • Mountainous or Rural Areas: The advanced tread design and rubber compounds of the CrossClimate 2 optimize grip and handling on rough, wet, or snowy roads, making it ideal for those in areas where the weather can change quickly.
  • Safety Focused: Drivers prioritizing safety over fuel efficiency, especially in regions with unpredictable weather, will find the CrossClimate 2’s performance in various conditions unmatched.

Thanks all! I appreciate the feedback and insight. Looks like the Defender 2 is the better tire for my situation. I had a feeling the CC2's might be too much for this area and the driving I do. I do mainly city and highway driving and if I'm headed to the mountains it's most likely in the warmer months.

Just got the Defender2 on wife's CRV. Big upgrade from the crappy Ecopica. CR rates the Defender as the number 1 tire. Costco carrys them.
