I used the calculator on the California DMV website to check how much it will be to register my Mav when I get it (keep in mind this is with the sales tax on it for being a new car)

Current Registration $61.00
Current California Highway Patrol $28.00
Current Vehicle License Fee $168.00
Current County Service Authority For Freeway Emergencies Fee $1.00
Current Fingerprint ID Fee $1.00
Current Smog High Polluter Repair Fee $6.00
Original Smog Abatement $6.00
Alt Fuel/Tech Smog Fee $8.00
Current Abandoned Vehicle Fee $1.00
Current Valley Air Quality $6.00
Alt Fuel/Tech Reg Fee $3.00
Current Vehicle Theft/DUI $22.00
Current Transportation Improvement Fee $110.00
Use/Sales Tax $2,193.00
Reflectorized License Plate Fee $1.00

Total Use/Sales Tax $2,193.00
Total Registration Fees $402.00
Grand Total Registration Fees $2,595.00
My Lariat Hybrid with Lux is priced just under $30K from Chapman Ford but I will pay taxes/title in Texas. Our tax on car sales is 6.25% so maybe a few hundred bucks cheaper and the registration is about $125-$150 if I can remember? It covers the annual sticker fee for the first year.

Wow closer than I thought it would be. The tax rate here is 7.25%, but there can be local taxes added on depending on where you live. For my town it's 8.50%.

Yeah, I think California does California with the gas tax. 70 cents a gallon vs Texas being Texas at 20 cents a gallon. They know where to make the money fo sho!!!!!!

I don't have a problem with them esthetically, but I'm less convinced of their function. In Ontario at least, on trucks you put the registration sticker on the front plate, while cars it goes on the back. Police can easily pull up behind you, run your plates, and check your stickers in a car, but with a truck stickers can't easily be checked. Why have stickers in different places on vehicles. Seems unnecessary.

I'm curious what the reasoning is (maybe someone knows)? Is it because trucks tow things that block the rear plate, so stickers go on the front? I have no idea.
I thought my dealer made a mistake. I’d be interested in hearing the answer too!

I believe it is because trucks typically have a trailer attached. That is just what my father told me when I was younger. He could have been wrong, as he often is LOL :ROFLMAO:

Yanks need to keep their off topic shit out of here.

Black plates, no choice. It's designated as a pickup on the ownership.
