This reminds me of the Hyundai/Kia 4cyl engine debacle. They wanted to install a software update to use the knock sensors to detect engine failure on our car to prevent a fire/engine lockup . I said to myself if it's so unreliable you have to mitigate what happens during engine failure with some half assed software update I want no part of this vehicle and sold it soon after.

So if we don't get this repaired, and it happens in the first 36k miles and catches fire, does ford give us a new engine but it's up to us to get a truck to put it in because the body is toast?

Updated with recall notice:

Just saw a new Maverick recall notice came out. https://www.newsmax.com/finance/str...threat-escape-maverick/2022/07/08/id/1077921/

The new recall covers certain 2020 through 2022 model year Ford Escape, Maverick and Lincoln Corsair vehicles with 2.5-liter Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid engines. Ford said in the event of an engine failure, significant quantities of engine oil and fuel vapor may be released that could accumulate near ignition sources resulting in a potential under-hood fire.
The biggest concern is that this becomes an issue when an engine failure occurs... "In the event of an engine failure"...

Right there with you... It almost reads that they are making a modification to the splash guard so that when the engine fails it won't catch fire. So are we driving around with a product that is known to fail at such a high rate that they have seen some engine bay fires already? Anyone want to buy a Maverick a hybrid? Concerned Now I've had 2 strikes.... 1) clunking when slow rolling to a stop. 2)major recall that helps mitigate an engine fire upon engine failure...
Is there any evidence or acknowledgement that the engines are failing at a higher rate than normal? I've not seen any, and don't read this recall as being the result of more frequent engine failure. Just righting a design flaw if there is engine failure (which all engines have).

Yes. The articles I've been reading state there has been an identified manufacturing issue. Others identify the crank as the issue. So I guess we just drive them with the holes drilled in the splash pan(recalled solution to the fire issue but not addressing the crank failures)...

I've seen the crackshaft issue identified for a small number of Escapes, but not the Maverick.

Which ones specifically identify a crankshaft issue in the Maverick? The crankshaft was a previous recall for the escape. From what I can tell this recall may have been a result of those engine failures but is to reconcile the possible fire issue not the engine failure (which doesn't appear to affect the Maverick)

Built week of 7-4, shipping presently. No recall for my vin on Ford.com, NHSTA, or Ford Pass app.. Was there a change/Mod to those built before/after the recall dates?

Good question ⁉. Check yours when you get it. It probably has more holes in the splash guard. I am still curious to know what's causing the engine failures leading to this. How do we know if we have the possibility of a part that can lead to a failure?
