Are there any members that experienced this issue? Has it been resolved by Ford? I saw this posted on Ford Authority, dated for late 2020.

Lawsuit summary:

=This Alert Affects: Ford drivers who had issues with their car’s 1.5-, 1.6- or 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.
Which Vehicles Are Affected? 2013-2019 Ford Escapes, 2013-2019 Ford Fusions, 2015-2018 Ford Edges, 2017-2019 Lincoln MKCs, and 2017-2019 Lincoln MKZs.
What Problems Are Being Reported? Overheating, engine damage, smoke from the exhaust pipe, the constant need to replenish coolant, and engine fires.=

Some points to bear in mind:
1. It covers 2013-2019 model year engines. Has Ford done a re-design since 2019? Don't know but kind of doubt it.
2. The U.S. is the most litigious nation in the world.

Don’t think Ford would put a non-improvement engine in the 2022 vehicles. That is what a warranty is for if true. No worries for me.

pretty sure they redesigned the 2.0 for 2020 Escape. Previously it was basically just a rebadged Mazda design found in Miata and some Land Rovers and the above listed Ford and Lincs

The article I read in Ford Authority stated the one reason for the lawsuit was a failure of Ford to cover the issue under warranty. I could not find any reference to an improvement in the engine in a search. This is not a concern for me, I will be going with the Hybrid, but it does bother me that Ford has not addressed the problem. I stayed away from a Subaru in 2015. They has a similar problem that resulted in significant oil loss and engines overheating. The issue for me is not that engineering failures hav occurred. its the manufacturers failure to own the problem and correct it.

Yes sir, it has been taken care of.

In my mind it's just another bullshit law suit taken by an ambulance chasing lawyer that has nothing else to do. No one makes out on law suits of this nature but the lawyer. And, then the companies just pass the loses to it's future customers. We desperately need tort reform, but that will never happen. Sadly we elect to many lawyers to represent us, and they surely ain't gonna bite the hand that's feeds them.

That’s a good article but it doesn’t even address the coolant loss as an issue, let alone tell us if Ford has resolved it.

I researched this a ton before ordering my 2.0 Mav. Not a lot of info out there but I finally ran across a thread that indicated that Ford redesigned the area where the coolant leak occurs. Also have a Ford tech friend who said it has been redesigned.

I have 2013 Fusion with the 1.6 liter eco boost engine. It has 90K+ miles on it and I have never had an issue. It still gets 30+ mpg on the highway and around 26 mpg in town. It has been one of the best vehicles I have every owned and I have owned a lot over the years. Just FYI…

I have a 2018 Escape that has the 1.5L 4-cyl EB, and had the short block replaced at 25K. Obviously, under warranty, took almost 6 weeks, had a dealer-supplied loaner the entire time.
There was a change made mid-2019 to the area between the bores, from a "saw-cut" to a drilled hole. Have 15K on the replacement block, no problems at all. My dealer tells me they have had none come back after the block replacement.

2nd Gen 2.0 EcoBoost

Ford gave the 2.0 a major revamp in 2015 in favor of more performance and better fuel efficiency. However, the real reason for the new engine is that the Ford/Mazda partnership lapsed and Ford had to design it’s own 2.0 EB engine instead of piggy-backing off of the Mazda L engine.

The 2nd Gen variation received a new aluminum block, new cylinder head with an integrated exhaust manifold, and changed to a twin-scroll turbocharger. Additionally, the twin-scroll turbo by BorgWarner has an active wastegate.

In addition to a higher compression ratio, the fuel system and oil cooling system received upgrades. The overall result was better gas mileage and more low-end torque, making it more capable as a tow vehicle.

Was this the design that is now being challenged in the lawsuit, or has it been revamped since then to correct the aledged leakage problem?.
