I was shopping used small trucks having little luck. drove a 2016 2.7L Tacoma, since I've liked yodas and still have a 94 4wd. that truck seemed big as a 15 year old tundra and didn't have the power my 8 hp lawn tractor has. Bitching about it with the dealer they asked what was I really looking for. I told them the best thing I had seen was a used 22 2.0 Maverick, but I wasn't happy with the price and high miles. the sales manager came aboard and offered me a 23 2.0 XLT with tow, luxury, other upgrade inc folding tonneau and moonroof. Msrp plus $599 dealer cost. I had been seeing these rigs marked up $2500 and more "market value adj", told him $299 for dealer cost, was accepted and gave a $500 deposit. I feel like I did ok. It was a rig ordered by someone who changed his mind a month before it was due in.
now 1700 miles on it. very happy. peppy, handles great, comfy. better mileage than the window sticker. nice bells and whistles, my old yoda has crank windows, no ac and a manual tranny.
I will read this forum and look for answers to change things I don't like. Turns off at stop and restarts, thats gotta go, would prefer a better fix than the console switch. speakers are pretty good, could be better. interface with cell phone, availability of apps, ability to interface google maps with truck screen seem primitive. dealer folk were only able to accomplish some of it, and then only with a usb tether. i miss my Jukes tiptronic type tranny, the dial is lame. why do I need a physical key, Jukes fob and button on dash is better imho. all black wheels are ok but uninspiring. available vinyl graphics are uninspiring. a neighbor has a slammed Canyon 2wd that's awesome looking. I won't go that far but might like to lower this and drop the tire dia. I'm 68, have been thru the knarliest of 4 wheeling, am done with it, will not take this rig in the woods. in fairness, I'm just an old guy who hasn't even looked at the manual yet. my fault.
I will report on ease of body work repairs here with a new rig like this, as my good friends 45 year old crackhead nephew was driving thru town a week ago in the other direction and his big ass front wheel fell off his $300 Grand Cherokee, bounced high in the air, looked like it was going to come thru the windshield and land on my face but dove at the last second and scarred the shit out of my driver side doors. uninspected, expired temp tags, uninsured, cops let him walk. Ford has no body facilities nearby, I will use the best independent locally who says with a new truck I deserve NEW doors. worst will be $100 deductible, and waiting for backlog at the shop til Nov. folk say surprised you didn't kill him. the thought entered my mind but the cops got there first. Thankful I wasn't on my motorcycle with wife or grandchild on the back. always count your blessings.
