New bike day! My 1UP hitch bike rack set up

Just wanted to add that I use a 1UP rack and I bought the license plate mod because I had got a warning from a police officer that they couldn’t see my plate because the rack was obscuring the view. To access the tailgate I also installed a 4” lower bracket to lower and extend the rack away from the tailgate so I can use it when not towing the bike

Wow, looks like a Status 160 mullet. I'm building up a Stumpjumper 130 29er. Gonna be a lot more XC favored than the Status. I'd have to take the Status 160 out to the Blue Ridge, it would erase my local trails.

I have a straight tube 10" hitch extender, not lowered. Bike sits high but I can drop the tailgate fully and maneuver behind the tailgate well. My rack isn't nearly as nice as a 1up but it does extend out a lot, leaving room for the tailgate. Try a longer hitch extender if you want to drop the tailgate fully*.

*Sure beats those $500 swing away hitch adapters

Will the hitch lay flat with the rack up or down?

This is where the Maverick's large tail light modules are a huge bonus. Easy to see even when partially covered by your bike cargo. So many other new cars have the tiniest taillights

The rack needs to be brought to the “low” position first. Easy enough and also invested in 1UPs ez-pull. It’s for a 2-rack but spoke to the rep at Sea Otter Classic recently and he said take a hacksaw to the rods and it works perfectly. So got it done

Im going to be buying the Extreme duty, or whatever one is the most heavy duty for me and my Girlfriends Talaria Ebikes. Thanks for the info!

Enjoy! You can get the SD/HD. Also sway towards aluminum. The black fades over time but doesn’t compromise otherwise. I’d also say unless e-bikes, you don’t need the extreme. Also get all the locks up front so they match. I think for two bikes you’ll want five? One for the hitch and two per bike (one per wheel.)

Lastly get the easy pull! They updated it recently and the new racks have updated levers too, or they are coming out with them soon..look for that other IG. Instead of red levers for the racks, they now have/will have toggle buttons.

I think you have highlighted one of the main problems of a truck with a short bed. How many things have we see on this site where the license plate is not visible. Your motivation was spurred by a law enforcement encounter. From my experience things get real when you get stopped. Even if it is an inappropriate stop. I applaud your inspired and innovative response. Thank You.

I like you bike rack. It has a clean look when not in use. I never had an issue with my plate being covered up when I have my bike rack on and I leave it on all summer.
