Came across this carvana listing for a 2011 Ranger Sport for $20,990. Although it only has 64,600 miles, and appears to be in ok condition, they are asking $20,990! That's just a hair below what the MSRP was when it was new 10 years ago ($22,425). And it's already on hold. If that doesn't make me feel pretty darn good about my Maverick purchase...nothing will!

This is exactly why I'm buying a Maverick. I can get a new truck with zero miles and zero years of use for two or three thousand more than a ten year old truck with 50K miles on it. Gee, I wonder which one I'll choose.

In August 2021 I went shopping for F-150's and this is the results of scraping everything Autotempest had to offer within 100 miles

If I wanted less than 100k miles the pickings got real slim

I mean if you're looking to tow or go offroad it's something to think about. Even still for a bit more a awd mav would probably be the better choice for the money.

I was in this same situation last spring/summer when looking for a used Ranger. Prices were climbing for used vehicles. After learning about the Maverick I realized it fit the bill for everything I was looking for......truck-like abilities, low purchase price, excellent fuel economy, and ability to carry more than 2 people. It was a no-brainer for me. More power, better features, an expected better ride and drive, the fact that it is new and not a 10 year old vehicle.....I'll spend a little more for that. The bed size was the ONLY thing that gave me pause about the Maverick. I have a full size truck if I need to haul more. It's going to be a daily driver that will exceed the abilities of the Civic I am replacing.

I was concerned about having a four and a half foot bed as well. Then one of my employees asked me, when have you ever needed all six feet of the bed on the truck you currently have? When you were hauling construction waste to the dump. And how often do you plan on doing that?

That kind of made my decision easy.

Seeing the recent video where they loaded it with 1500 pounds of logs gave me more confidence in my decision.

I will only say this. There's absolutely nothing that compares to a brand new vehicle with zero miles and a factory warranty, and I'll leave it at that.

What's even crazier is that the Ranger is technically 2011 but is identical to a '98

I often use the full space of my 6½ foot bed and occasionally wish I had an 8'. So, if I need to haul more, that's why I have it.

The 2011 is definitely a much older design than just 10 years old. :)

This is basically what drove me to getting a Maverick. I had been shopping for a used truck to just do small projects around the house and haul stuff occasionally and quickly realized that the $4k I had set aside would barely get me a sh*tbox. If I wanted something that wasn't going to fall apart going down the road I was going to have to finance it, and I had already made the decision that I was never going to finance a used vehicle again. Then the Maverick came along and It fit my budget so I could afford to keep my car too.

Jeep Gladiator has a 5' bed length. Toyota Taco had a 5' bed length with 'double cab'. There is another with a 4.5' bed length that I just saw on YT, but did not remember whose.
AHA! The RIvian has a 54" bed length. That would be 4" @48" and then 6"@6" totaling 54 inches... so Mav is not significantly less endowed... so to speak HA

Hate to be "that guy" but part of me wonders if that Carvana Ranger wont still be roaming the roads long after your hypothetical new Maverick with it's tin can build quality (granted as I always stress, much of it due to 2021 environmental regulations rather than Ford's fault) is gone

But yeah I've seen a lot of listings like that and sarcasm and quality wonders aside I'm with you, I'd go with a new Mav by 10,000% over a ten year old (ugly) ranger!

I'm driving a beat up 08 Canyon 4 banger regular cab with 140k miles, seems from looking at local listings it seemingly wouldn't fetch me more than ~4k (which is probably book too). But it's still my daily driver and somebody is going to get a bargain of a beater truck if I sell it. No telling, it might blow up tomorrow, but I'm betting it's got another 100k miles in it easy. Engine and transmission still sound solid. I think the real key has been my annual oil changes. People changing the oil every 4k miles adds so much wear and tear. Just kidding on that last part unnecessary oil changes are one of my pet peeves.

I know of a 2008 Ranger Sport that sold for $19,000 in CA. It had 68,000 miles on it and was one owner.

Good points. Most things manly are in 6 inch increments.

Once in a while when I need more "bed" I will rent a 8-12 ft trailer.
