I'm almost 1000% sold on an AWD Ecoboost XLT Mav. My wife, who wants me in a new car more than anyone, asked why I don't just put an order in. After using the Costco Auto Program to send requests out for used '23 Mav's accidentally to a dealer, the dealer also asked if I was in the market for a Maverick.

On top of being overly scrupulous and a bit frugal, I find myself caught between a rock and a hard place.

I've looked at the most recent order posts in the Orders forum and I'm not even sure my ride will last another year in the condition it's in.

With the images of the '25 Mav circulating it wouldn't surprise me if orders for it started within the next few months. It'd be amazing if they released an AWD Hybrid, PHEV even. I have a mostly highway commute of 80+ miles round trip daily so having a hybrid helps but not compared to a lot of city driving so it's not a dealbreaker for me. The certainty of AWD compared to FWD however is a dealbreaker.

Do I bite the bullet and settle for a used Mav that doesn't quite fit my ideal build, order a '24 now and hope it doesn't take a year, or wait for the '25 orders to open and pray that I can get an AWD Hybrid a year after I order it?

Could always order and if you find the right used or some thing happens like the wife totals the daily hitting a deer. You can cancel your order at least I had no problem canceling a 2024 Base ECO with only AWD and 4k towing. I did not have a build date at the time of cancel.

If you want 2025, just wait until the order bank opens and order from a local dealer that doesn't do mark-up and bs.

No one is waiting a year for a '24 Maverick. That is your second fastest option.

I am just down the road from you. There are lots of new '24 Mavs in stock. Ken Grody/North County Ford shows 76 this a.m. . Also consider driving north to Orange County if you spot one using the locate feature on the Ford website. I purchased my '22 EB new off the lot in Riverside from Fritz Ford. I ordered my '24 hybrid from my neighorhood dealer, Encinitas Ford.

[I do not recommend Encinitas Ford as they tried to skim $600 of the price protection $$ that came with my vehicle]

As for the '25 hybrid AWD, I think they will be hard to get for awhile and probably sell at a premium as they will be the only hybrid with AWD in the game. The markup will be high and the wait will be long.

I think buying new as opposed to a used one would be preferable. I think the Costco Auto Program limits the junk fees they charge but always verify the various fuckery they charge for before you even go to see them.

Edit: I get 42-45 mpg, 75% stop/go 25% on the I-5 in stop/go comute traffic. 625 mi range using Costco 87 gas.

In many cases the reason people had to wait so long is because the dealer did not have allocations. You could go to two dealers on the same day and order the exact same vehicle and one order could come in within 4 months while the other is still pending 8 months later. It all comes down to dealer allocations. That is why some people got their ‘24 orders before others who were still waiting for their ‘23 orders to be filled.

If you can’t find a new one on the lot just make sure to have the dealer verify they still have allocations for new orders. If they won’t tell you, move on. Timing can also be affected by the availability of the options you select.

I ordered my Mav from Ken Grody in Carlsbad. The whole experience was flawless down to them not installing front license plate.

Neighbor services his F-150 at NCF in Vista because they have a larger service center and shorter TAT. I'm due for my first oil change so I’ll go there.

Good luck and I’ll see you around Oceanside.

If you put in a retail order this summer at a large dealer, I see no reason why it would take a year to receive one.

I’d expect to get one in Q1 ‘25 if you order this summer. Keep in mind, production won’t start until late this year.

If Ford comes out with a plug-in Maverick Hybrid. I really think I'd have to get one. I owned a Chevy Volt second generation. I loved it.
Except for getting in and out of it.
In the early 80's I was in a situation where I had to buy a car.
I promised myself never again would I put myself in a position of having to buy a car. Gives the dealer new or used too much advantage.

Man, this is extremely helpful! And nice to know we have nice neighbors :p

I work in Mission Viejo so I definitely check options in Orange and OC in general.

I'd definitely look at either Ken Grody or Gosch Ford since Gosch was on Costco Auto as their recommended dealer, so it looks like they're both good dealers to work with.

Re: your Edit: this is for the Hybrid, I'm assuming? Those are appealing numbers. Still, I'm ok sacrificing a little mpg overall for the mental comfort of having AWD. (feel free to tell me if I'm crazy for thinking that way)

Howdy neighbor!! Thank you for sharing! I see a lot of Ken Grody license plate covers so it's reassuring to see that they've earned a good reputation.

I'll have to check out NCF. I've saved California Automotive Solutions and Conover Tires from Costco's Verified Mechanics (obvious trend here). Any opinion on either of those? Is Grody good but just too busy?

Yeah, I've been thinking about that a lot. My current ride runs just fine but needs a lot of parts replaced. I required an oil change right when I moved here in March; after the job was done, they told me to my face to sell the thing for parts.

I love not making payments. I love my car and truly want to drive it into the ground. Sadly, that day is coming much sooner than I hoped. I'm not in a situation that justifies purchasing a cheap used car, and with interest rates the way they are, I wouldn't even want to buy a used car. Hence, my obsession with the Maverick.

So, if you or someone you know would love to buy an '02 Lexus RX300 Coach Edition for parts, I hope I'm the first guy to call! :p

This Time of the year, I would wait for new year model
If they surprise all of us with an official reveal this summer, I'll definitely be watching the order banks like a hawk hoping to slip my order in.

Of course, there's always the possibility that it still takes several months, if not over a year, but for the Maverick it feels worth the wait.
