No they don't. Vehicle gets it first title when first registered.
Not exactly/fully correct. True that the Dealer does NOT hold the "Title" with name of buyer and seller and so on.
What the Dealer holds is even more important. The "CO" or Manufacturers Certificate of Origin for each vehicle. This is NOT easily replaced. This is what is taken to a DMV to GET A Title.

Thanks everyone for the feedback so fsr. Originally signed for $25,800 with all options included (including dealer installed), they quoted me $27,095 at pickup, but would've been higher had they remembered to include the dealer options. I showed them the email Ford sent me about the "special private offer" details and that it said "contact your dealer". The dealer said that it's not on them, it's on Ford itself. That's the part thats the most frustrating. There was communication from Ford that there'd be a "special private offer" because my Maverick got pushed back to another model year. Further, I wasn't able to get the sunroof (that was part of the $25,800 in 2021) because Ford dropped it from being available on the 2023 XLs. All that said, I got the runaround from the dealer and they quickly blamed Ford. But to me, the customer, they ARE Ford. And finally, they said "come get it sooner than later", charged me more than I had reasonably expected, then called later to say they forgot to charge me even more.

Ford has a dynamite product but this customer service experience is absolutely flawed.

Right, but as the lender is the primary lien holder, I doubt they are going to want a dealership to risk their $27,000 investment over a $900 typo.

I have an effing MY23 F-150 XLT Heritage Edition my dealer is loaning me FOR FREE with the only caveat to not run up more than 5,000 miles on it because the Explorer I bought needs a recall fix that could take up to two weeks. The dealer can eat the damn $900.

I live on the border of two counties that have different tax rates. My dealer called after I brought my Mav home saying they needed to collect the extra 600 and some dollars because they charged me the wrong tax % (for the county I live in). I ignored their phone call twice and they never bothered me again. I've even gone back to have work done because it threw a code and they didn't say anything... I'd just ignore them

The dealer is ABSOLUTELY WRONG that the private offer can be handled by Ford.

It cannot.

It must be handled at the dealership ā€” and if your private offer is not showing up in their system, then they must work with their Ford rep (sales and inventory specialist) to sort it out.

However, since you DID get emails about the private offer, you MAY be able to call Ford Marketing and see if they can retrieve a private offer certificate number for you. You will need your Order Number from the dealer. (This is a number your dealer assigned to your order.)

And if you have a certificate, the dealer can call their Sales and Inventory Specialist to get the offer certificate number. All they will need is the COVP tracking number on your order ā€¦. IF they submitted your order to COVP, which is a customer verification process.

Here is text from a memo from Ford to dealers that explains what they need to do if the certificate isnā€™t there, as well as some pertinent notes.

The memo is EFC10955. Here's the relevant bit:

If you believe your customer should have been included in this private offer, and did not receive a certificate, please contact your Sales and Inventory Specialist. We will need the required customer information (Customer Name, Address, Order Number, ROVP (COVP) verification) and we will confirm eligibility and add the customer to the list.

Customer must have an unscheduled 22MY retail order that was enrolled and approved in Maverickā€™s COVP Lead to Order Program prior to the previously-communicated cut-off date of 11/17/2021 for Maverick Hybrid orders and 2/2/2022 for Maverick EcoBoost Gas orders in order to qualify for the private offer.

There are two conditions that must apply for the transition private offer.

First, your 2022 order must have been COVP (Customer Order Verification Program) approved. It's Ford's way of verifying the order is for an actual person and not a name put on an order so the dealer can attempt to get more inventory.

This was on the dealer to do at the time he submitted your order. ASK if your order was COVPā€™d ā€¦ and asked for that number.

Second, your truck did not get built and you were rolled over to a 2023 order. If these 2 conditions are met, you qualify for the private offer.

When it doesn't show up in the system for you, it is typically because of mismatched or mislinked information between orders.

Ford will not fix this, only the dealer can take care of it. Not all dealers are eager to assist in helping. Your dealer has to contact their sales rep and/or their inventory specialists to get it worked out.

They will have to file for an ā€œexceptionā€ (ETP = Exception To Policy) on your order with Ford in order to generate the private offer for you, if it is not showing up in the system.

(This is what our dealer had to do, and it apparently was pretty simple once he worked with someone at Ford on how to do it. It was accomplished within a couple of days.)

You have a signed contract and a bill of sale. Even with our courts, that falls under "too bad." There was a famous case back in the 1990s where a misplaced decimal in a contract resulted in millions of dollars lost. The court's ruling was very simple: "you signed the contract at X amount; pay X amount."

Dealer eats this one.
That's the way it is. If they forgot to put it on there it's there problem. I went through something similar. I told the dealer (mazda ) too bad. Then hung up

Lots of good advice in this thread. Bottomline, they really tried to ā€œscrewā€ youā€¦. I mean, they snuck on a bunch of undeclared, Dealer installed junk, just to gouge you. A lock for your spare tire cost $200! Just, WOW!

Donā€™t agree to anything and ONLY communicate with them in writing. Go get that permanent tag ASAP and ignore them.

You can contact Ford Corp. and work to get your private offer without their involvement. Good luck and above all else, try to enjoy your new truck!

What is the world are you talking about? Have you read this thread? The OP wanted and ordered those dealer installed options. He also signed approving the purchase and most of the prices are not unreasonable. The dealer did not sneak anything into the order. The dealer simply failed to add them to the buyers order. Legally the dealer can separately charge for those items that the OP agreed to in writing. Dealer installed items are generally added to the vehicles purchase agreement, but there is nothing legally preventing a separate invoice.

My take is that if this went to small claims court the OP would lose in 3 minutes.

judge to OP. Did you order those parts at those established prices?

OP to Judge. ā€œYesā€

Judge to OP. Are you in possession of all parts listed?

OP to judge. Yes

Judge to OP, did you pay for those parts? Please produce a receipt...

OP to judge. No I didnā€™t pay for them, I have no receipt.

Followed by the sound of the gavel and order to pay for the parts and court costs...

Hey all, I'm in need of help big time. I ordered my Maverick in October 21, 2021 and just picked it up today. There was no special private offer. No price protection, just the sticker price. I raised the issue to the manager but got nothing.

I took it home and they just called saying they forgot to charge me for the dealer installed options and asked me how I will be paying for those.

I signed the bill of sale. I have it at my house. I'm furious. After 17 months, this is my experience. What the heck?

What are my options?
Fā€™em!! You closed the deal šŸ˜œ

Calm Down, Judge Judy!

Dealers that add products to customer special orders without their permission and then try to force it on you at point of sale are SCUM!

Call them up. Start out saying, I am recording this call for quality control purposes Then put them on hold for 10 minutes. Play some music with lots of static in it. Then hang up.

When they call you back ask if you could put them on hold for 3 minutes. Have a couple of roosters making noise in the background.

Tell them you have no extra money and if they never told you about the add on you will not pay them any more money. If they insist you pay, tell them you will have to transfer them to a level 2 personnel.

Say all level 2 personnel are busy and the wait time will be 45 minutes.

Hang up again.
Were they options that you wanted? If so negotiate with them because they did not honor the price protection. If they are options you did not order, tell them to have a nice day and thank you.

Yes they are.

In this case and According to the OP, The dealer didnā€™t add anything to the order that the OP didnā€™t want. Do you see the descriptions, prices and the OPā€™s signature.

The OP can leverage payment of the $900 options into getting the dealer to assist with the private offer.

Does the contract list the options along with the price charged? If so OP is probably fine. They are part of the final sales price agreed to.

But if the contract does not list the options, then OP did not pay for them. This falls into the unjust enrichment realm, and OP will need to pay for them. I agree the dealer is shady (and may have done this to help quietly close the deal). I agree it sucks they aren't helping with the private offer. But that is a separate issue from the dealer installed options.
