so at 49k you have to change rear pads but not the front?

What do the pads look like? Seems like not making good contact on the rotor, are they totally worn out?

I feel like brakes are like tires on new vehicles. They typically wear out faster than what you put on next.

I never had that issue until I bought my 2009 Forester. It wore the rears out twice as often as the fronts. Old school brakes had a strong front wheel bias. Modern brakes bias their front:rear application according to speed and conditions, and tend the use the rears a lot.

Those pictures don't really help much. What do the pads look like?

Pending your driving habits, 50K brakes are not uncommon.

So, you're saying that cast iron rusts?
Who knew?!

Or, are you saying your pads are worn out?
Hard to tell what you mean.

I will say that if your pads are worn out at 49k miles, you're resting your foot on the pedal or something.

You really need to look at the actual pads. Have you been on a lot of dirt roads? My '87 and '01 Rangers never needed anything done to the brakes until we'll over 100k. They both had surface rust on them in the mornings and would squeel or grind on their first application.

One of my regular driving trips includes a twisty, two-mile steep ascent and similar descent. I think I replaced the rear brakes on my Subaru three times in less than 90K. Once might have been from the pads hanging up, though...

Your lucky they lasted that long. All new Fords wear the rear out first. Most are junk by 30k miles. Great opportunity to scrap the cheap China brakes from the factory.

I while I was rotating my tires yesterday I pulled my slide pins to check, they were pretty dry. I cleaned them up and lubed them with caliper slide grease and reassembled.

Any special steps with the electric parking brake? Haven't done brakes with that setup yet. Had a brief look at the rear calipers while getting a flat fixed and it looked like the rear slide pins ran in rubber bushes IIRC.

Cheers.
