Say it isn't so!

Sadly the high-price Rivian was chosen by MotorTrend. While these awards are nice to see, it does not predict how well a particular vehicle does in the marketplace, or how long-term their reliability is, etc. See this attached article for more.

I read many years ago that MotorTrend took into consideration the manufacturers marketing strategy beforehand (if they were awarded the title), and this entered into MT's final decsion. I'd bet Rivian has promised MotorTend a huge campaign that highlights MotorTrend in their advertisements. Maybe Ford didn't want to pay-up to get the award.

I'm still going to wait for my Maverick to be build and sold to me!

An Award for a Vaporware Truck.

Most awards are for something that was actually done not something you may do.

Imagine the uproar that would happen in NFL sports if they gave out MVP rewards or Offensive/Defensive player of the year awards before the start of the season.

It makes sense. The Rivian is ground breaking more than the Maverick to be sure.
Can you buy one and drive it? No? Then shouldn't be on the list. Not my publication to run though LOL.

I'll be making a road trip from Tucson to Dallas before Christmas (~1000 miles). Pretty much any ICE vehicle could make this trip with a few quick stops for gas. The Truck of the Year would leave me stranded somewhere in New Mexico, and that's assuming it was fully charged to begin with.

Well Rivian is building a plant in Georgia (East side of Atlanta) that will employee 8k people.

If it is any consolation the Maverick is about half the price...

It's not vaporware, they have built and delivered some trucks (I wonder if they have delivered more then Ford has delivered Mavericks at this point).
I love the R1T/S and have followed a lot of the journey they have been on to get to where they are now. That being said, I don't have the money for one......I'll stick to my Maverick

I can't buy a hybrid Maverick and drive it either soooo?

If I ran a publication then yes I would say "hey this is great but while it is technically for sale in 2021, they aren't delivery orders en masse yet so I am not considering it for the best of 2021" but do I think someone is crappy for not doing the same? nah.

Actually one could buy THREE base model Mavericks for the price of ONE base model Rivian . . . . . and have money for the tax for all three . . . . and not have to worry about needing a charge!

Personally I think that's an ugly front end on that truck and can't figure out what it remines me of . . . . old appliance or something?
