Ford Maverick Mods, Review & Experience so far... 2" lift kit, 15mm wheel adapters, Motegi mr139 17" wheels, Cooper Adventure AT3 tires, front window tint PXL_20220609_143158266

2022 Ford Maverick XL, Cactus Grey
2.0 Ecoboost with AWD and Tow Package

Add-ons: All weather floor mats, 110w outlet, spray in bed liner, and Ford roll up tonneau cover.

Mods: 2" Rough country lift kit, 15mm wheel adapters, Motegi mr139 wheels, Cooper Adventure AT3 tires 265/65r17, front window tint

The story up to now:

Put in my order at the end of October 2021 and received at the beginning of April 2022. After trading in my old car for more than what I paid for it and fighting with the dealer to remove a $10,000 mark up I finally had my Maverick. Before the first 1000 miles I installed the lift kit, wheels, and tires. Luckily I manage a fleet of vehicles so I have a shop where I can do all my own work. Many, many miles later, including long trips and city driving, I finally feel like it's time to share.

Pros:
MPG! Even with the lift kit and tires I still average just under 25mpg. I drive most of the time in eco mode with auto start off.

Interior space! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of interior space this truck has. Standing at 6'3" I have plenty of room and very comfortable. I've also had full grown adults in the back, even with my seating position.

Ride quality! This thing works like a truck but rides like a car. I've made several long trips in this thing all over California (if you live here you know how bad the roads are) and this truck makes it easy to keep on going comfortably.

Cons:
I know these are more like nit picks but I feel should be shared...

Auto stop start needs to go! Taking care of a fleet of vehicles with this option, I have seen the down sides. Charging issues when having to use external electrical equipment, batteries going bad within 2 years, and shortening starter life. Simple fix in my opinion would be when you start the truck it's automatically turned off and the button would instead turn on the system if you want to use it.

Sound deadening! I know it's not the case for all models but I know my XL is missing foam in the front fenders. I feel that small of a thing should be standard.

Something else I feel should be standard, or at least a stand alone option is CRUISE CONTROL! I will be adding it some time soon but I feel that should be standard on all vehicles in 2022.

Mods:

For the lift kit, wheels and tires I had to get a bit creative. I ordered the lift kit the same day I picked up the truck from the dealership. Rough countries 2" lift was my go too because I've used their stuff in the past and have been happy with it. But I did have to make some tweaks to the rear spacers and the instructions weren't 100%. I'm sure they have fixed these issues by now but kinda expected based on the price and how new the kit is.

The wheels and tires I had already from my old car and wanted to save money. I heard early on that 265/65r17s were possible but Ford chose a non standard bolt pattern that almost ruined my money saving scheme. I've ran adapters and spacers on several of my older vehicles so I'm very comfortable with using them. The Motegis have a offset of +40 so I knew I didn't have much wiggle room. I found some 15mm adapters that were going to be my best option but that means more modification.

I had to add 2mm of additional space to the back side of the wheels so the original studs could poke through.

Once I got the lift on and wheels fitted I then had to deal with clearance issues. I have no pictures to show but I had to cut out inner fender liner as well as cut and weld the inner pinch weld. After an alignment it was good to go!

In the end I am very happy with this truck and plan on modding it more further down the line.

Thank you to all the awesome members of this forum! All the early technical info and modifications you guys have posted here has helped me a lot. So as a thank you, here is a photo dump of my truck! Enjoy

Nice job! Larger tires on the Mav really brings it to life in the looks department in my opinion.

I'm surprised your gas mileage is still as good as it is. I just recently put 245/65/17's on mine and 25mpg is about what i'm averaging now to and from work a combination of hwy and city driving (formally 28mpg). I would have expected a larger drop with your larger tires and lift. Maybe it has more to do with your location though.

Forgot to add that I have a company vehicle that I use for work during the week days. Free gas! Lol The Maverick mostly only gets driven during the weekend on longer trips.

Looks really great! I can't believe that your dealer tried to tack on a $10K mark-up on an ordered vehicle. I will be so pissed if my dealer tries to do that. How did you convince them to remove it. Threatening to walk away, doesn't work in this environment. Also, I've heard good things about this start/stop mod. I have a feeling you've already seen it...

https://www.autostopeliminator.com/collections/ford/products/2022-ford-maverick-autostop-eliminator
I made my order before the mark-ups were rampant and at first I got a verbal that the truck would be MSRP. So when I checked in on the progress over the 6 months with the dealer I would screen shot texts or emails saying that it would be at MSRP. When it finally came I had the screenshots ready and I remembered the names of everyone I dealt with during the time I was checking in. I kept my receipts if you will lol.

Also I have not seen this module! THANK YOU! don't know how I haven't seen this sooner.

Good work with the adapters, but it always seems like the wheel wells are crowded with the bigger tires. Steelies just look right with that color too!
